Funny you say this. I was one my way to get that sword red eagle or whatever and ran into what looks like a bunch of inbreds called Forsworns? Something like that and I'd just turned level 30 and had full life 260 armor rating and died from 1 hit. I was quite bemused to say the least.
Edit: to be fair pretty sure it was a dual magic attack so the armor rating is irrelevant I suppose. But it was like a touch of death or something, she was launching ice spikes at me like no tomorrow so I rushed her with my sword and thought that's it your dead and I fell to the ground dead.

how about the fact that if you have heavy armor and you have a high armor rate it doesn't mean jack squat it just takes a few hits and GAME OVER
I edited post so might make more sense, it looks like it was a strong magic attack as I died instantly. I only mentioned it as it hasn't happened before and it happened as soon as I levelled to 30.
Yes to the point of ridiculousness . For my lvl. 35 char all that awaits him in the Nordic ruins of Skyrim are Draugr deathlords and Scourges who always have ice magic and can conjure ice monsters like nothing. Have I mentioned that I'm playing on expert? >_>

I'm not using smithing. At all. And most of my major skills (Heavy Armor and Block) are close to being maxed out (in the high 70s) and One-Handed maxed out by like lvl. 28 or something. That means by lvl. 50 my major skills are gonna be maxed out. I'm screwed.
What is your spell resist? Do you only focus on armor? You should focus some defense on spell resist or you have trouble when enemy start using adept/expert spell

No enchantments either (heard its OP and my char doesn't like using magic aside from restoration). Restoration and Archery are my Minor Skills.
Hmm. True but daedric items are starting to pop up and my char doesn't want to use em. Any stuff I find from shopkeepers is going to be steel/ebony armor which can only be improved by smithing. I guess I could just keep putting points in Health or stamina and hope for the best.
I agree with jk21. Magic enemies are going to get stronger and stronger until you reach level 50, but your regular non-magic enemies are not going to get much stronger. You need protection against magic. Get Fire, Frost and Shock, or Magic resistance. Go get some necklaces, boots and shields. Use Atronach stone or Lord Stone to get better protection against magic.
Necklesses and rings, enchanted with frost, fire, shock or magic resist. That's what I try to shop for, when I have a char that does't enchant. Plus that way you aren't lugging around 4 pairs of boots...lol. Radiant rainment usually has a good selection of them.
My recently retired level 46 Nord warrior using a shield and axe has no problem with anything except the occasional group of mages. Occasionally they'll be using high enough level spells to make him sweat, but usually he can cut through groups of about anybody and anything - giants, dragons, Thalmor, chaurus, Falmer, you name it.
