Can't get full screen mode

Post » Sat Aug 04, 2012 10:49 pm

Hi,

I just bought and installed skyrim from steam and I'm having trouble running it. Basically, when the launcher pops up it runs the first time graphics setup, the data files tab is grayed out (even though the right line is in the prefs file), and no matter how I configure the options, it always loads in windowed mode. I know I have enough computer to run this thing but I can't figure out what's going on.

The only thing I can think of is that I have my documents folder on a different hard drive, and there's no skyrim folder in it, but I've been at this for a couple hours now and I'm at a complete loss. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know what to do? I've followed all the basic troubleshooting stuff on the tech support pages.

Thanks in advance (I hope)

One thing, Is it could be your monitor? Is it big enough to run Skyrim at Full-Screen mode? Also, did you try going to Compatibility?

I would guess that's it, Skyrim save the settings in the documents folder (Documents\My Games\Skyrim). I can't say for sure though, I don't have any experience of moving the documents folder elsewhere or read anything about any other user here doing the same.

But what if you tried to temporarily put the documents folder on the default location, save the Skyrim settings you want to use, and then put it back to the different hard drive?

Yeah,

My screen is fine, I can run Shogun 2 and Batman with no problem on high settings, and I'm running Windows 7 with no problem on those games. This is some kind of weird software or path thing that I can't figure out. The hardware is fine. I really want to get into this game, it took the past two hours to download, and then I get this. Bummer.
