[Question] Harkon's Vampire Lord Cape

Post » Sun Aug 05, 2012 8:07 pm

I remember some one pointing out a while ago that in some video's of Harkon in VL form that his cape seemed to move as if it were cloth. So is it true that they implemented physic cloth? And if so can/will it be used in some of the cape and cloak mods?

I just got to that point in the quest last night, and it APPEARED as though it had actual physics, though without being able to run around myself with the cape I cannot confirm it.

I don't know how it's done. I looked at the .nif for the cape and didn't notice anything immediately out of the ordinary, but I'm no expert on .nifs.

Couldn't you just use a take-control console command on him to run around and see if it has the attribute?

I saw a video of him on xbox and even there it looked as though it had physics. I really hope that mods like Cloaks of Skyrim can use it if it is using physics.... My capes and cloaks need to bellow in the wind!

I seem to recall somebody who played the xbox version confirming this, but that was a while ago, so it may have been refuted later. Still, if it looks better than how Cloaks are now, it might be worth investigating.

I've had a closer look at Harkon's cape now, it definitely moves a lot, much more than any other objects in the game. Since I haven't been in to check it with the Creation Kit though, I can't tell for sure whether or not it's just a very fluid animation or proper physics. I'm going to go in now and take control of him, see if I can wiggle it a bit.

Edit: Took control of Harkon, and as far as my knowledge goes, that's the verlet physics alright. I did some nice spins and everything, and the cape was flapping all over the place. It seems to be rigged to flap from his wings down. It can't pass through his body either, so no clipping issues. Hopefully this can be engineered to work for other objects too.
