Do follows level or lock when you meet them?

I've heard so many different answers about this and I'm really confused. I've heard four things. 1. Followers level with you. 2. Followers lock when you meet them and 3. Some followers level to 81 and some level up to certain levels. 4. you have to use the wabbajack to level them. Are any of theses true?

Followers do level as well as well having a maximum level to which they can reach. Most of the followers as I understand level up to around level 50. There might be one or two that go higher but I'm not sure. I've used the Wabbajack on some of my followers and as to whether or not it's worked I really have no idea. Playing on the PS3 i wish there was a way to look at their stats but I don't believe there is. I don't get too hung up on what level they are. I just equip them with the best gear that suits their style and let them go.

As of 1.6, they level with you. Prior to that, their stats would stay the same no matter how many times you leveled up.

Most generic followers go to level 30 or, rarely, to 20 or 25. Hirelings and a very few others got to level 40. Only the Cicle members, Housecarls, and Cicero go to level 50.

Now, there are some who have no level cap: the Dark Brotherhood initiates, J'zargo, and a few Dawnguard-added followers.

If you ask, I can tell you about specific follower levels, or you could look that information up on your own.
