punishment for death

In Skyrim, when you die, it doesn't matter, because you can just load again and you'll be right back. But I want the thrill of having fear to die. So what I want is a penalty for dying. Buut...I play the game on master difficulty, with tons of mods like ASIS and Deadly Dragons installed, so I am gonna die. This means Dead is Dead is not an option for me, also because I need so much time to get into a character and I wouldn't be able to let go.

So what are some other ways to penalize oneself for death? I heard about only saving on sleeping, but that sounds rather annoying to me. Sure, it would make me not wanna die, but if I do, I'd just have to repeat the same stuff again and I don't know if that's the solution. Another thing I made up myself was no saving in dungeons.

Do you have other ideas? I also thought about getting unconscious and getting robbed (losing all money I have with me), but I don't know.

At one point, I swapped my regular dead-is-dead mentality as a "revived at the closest chapel"-scenario. Basically drop all of your gear on the spot of your death (preferably in a corpse that'll disappear, or a container that'll respawn) (after reloading to the point before you died). Then fast travel to the closest city, walk into the chapel and wait for a week in game. Your things shouldn't be there anymore, so you can't walk back to them.

In the older games, I would go back to town and repair my equipment (even if the reloaded save did not need it).

You could also make a donation to an Alter or Church. Maybe leave some jewels in the Halls of the Dead.

You could force yourself to have to level up before going back to that place you died at (which is kind of what they want)

The only real game related "punishment" is to not save often and then have to go back and do things over again. Since you are on PC, you could come up with a mod that randomly removes some amount of money or items from your inventory, but not sure how to get that script to trigger as the game reloads your last save.

I die too much to worry about things like that. I guess that's the whole point: the Dragonborn is more competent as a warrior than I am.

Well I don't use saving AT ALL
( it helps perfomance , it saves the game from bugs and crashes )

So I can only quick save , and that doesn't happen a lot.

Quicksaves are just as likely to get corrupted over time as any other save. In fact, it might be more prevalent since that file is written over so many times and manual saves at least have a chance to be in a new slot, hence a new file.

You could roleplay that you did actually die and fell to the ground, but then sometime later a kind mage came by to resurrect you. However, all of your gear was taken by bandits during your time as a corpse and you have nothing left in your inventory.

Well I mean I don't use only them completely , I use regular saves mostly , these just help a little.
I just disabled all sorts of auto-saving which actually helps.

I think it's fine the way it is just save less often or don't save at all.

You could roleplay that you did actually die and fell to the ground, but then sometime later a kind mage came by to resurrect you. However, all of your gear was taken by bandits during your time as a corpse and you have nothing left in your inventory.
Wouldn't that be the same as turning on god mode cheat?

Every life costs you one Flawless Diamond.

Or you could roleplay being stuck in a temple of Kynareth/Mara being healed of your grievous wound for a few weeks.

I just disabled all sorts of auto-saving

That alone will do more to protect your save integrity than anything else will.

I know. Every time you die, hit yourself with a large, blunt object. No head or torso hits, though: it's only a game, after all. :wallbash:

How about rigging your keyboard/controller/gamepad/whatever to give you a mild electric shock whenever you die ingame?

You know what the penalty for death is? You wasted your time. Unless you obsessively save every second, you're losing valuable time. Of your life. Add in the loading screen, which is variable on your computer speed, and you've wasted even more time.

That's the punishment.

If they made a actual penalty for death like losing equipment, and reducing levels, or any severe penalty I would stop using bethesda games for several weeks.

This has been a problem for me with FA:NV and Skyrim. For PC I save files in new slot all the time and delete old ones (while using no auto-save at all), while on my 360 I play my DiD games... disabling all auto-save functions aside from Save on Rest has helped quite a bit for my 360. When the time comes to rest, I delete my old auto-save, then write a new one at rest. It acts like a marker for when I want to turn of my console.

Also, if you use 360, avoid using USB data sticks. On 360 they are HIGHLY PRONE TO CORRUPTION. You will turn on your 360 one day and have NO files. For PC it's not so bad if you safely disconnect hardware and all that fuzz. (If you are like me and lug your Skyrim around to work)

But who really unplugs a USB drive without safely removing hardware?
