It's not at all illegal. It's their game, they can do what they want with it. We are all entitled to the game we've purchased, not any future updates or releases.

But anyway, Pete Hines has tweeted that it's not cancelled, just he doesn't have any information right now. Besides, this is in the wrong forum, and even then all discussion should be in this topic anyway:
