Stuttering Camera movement

Post » Thu Aug 09, 2012 10:18 am

I've been having an issue with my camera stuttering when I look around with the mouse, even on the lowest video settings. It seems to be tied to my fps (or tied to something that is influencing my fps), as the stuttering isn't noticeable over ~50 fps.

The issue doesn't -seem- to just be a low framerate, though. My fps is about 40 at worst (which I find more than tolerable), and when I -don't- move my camera, but move forward, backward or strafe, there's no stuttering, even at a lower fps. That camera movement (side to side, or what-not) is perfectly smooth and in no way headache-inducing.

I've toyed around with other settings; enabling/disabling vsync and the mouse acceleration in the .ini doesn't change anything (the vsync never actually turns on, I don't think). Lowering my resolution from my default 1920x1200 works, because it just makes my fps go up, but it doesn't become very smooth until the resolution is so low that I'm playing with a game window 1/3 the size of my screen. I've been playing in windowed, with the borderless window mod, as well as SKSE and SkyUI. Disabling those mods does nothing to help the stuttering.

Is it just that my computer isn't powerful enough to run the game? I'd be okay just running the lower resolution, if... it weren't so [censored] tiny. But if it is just an fps problem, why does the stuttering only come out when I move the camera with the mouse to look around, when movement with WASD has perfectly smooth camera motion? I suppose it would make sense that camera-looking would be a lot more graphically intensive than just forward-backward-sideways movement, but even so, it would be lovely to run the game at my default resolution.

Here are my specs, this is an iMac running Windows on BootCamp, also:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.93 GHz
Memory: 4GB RAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4850 w/512 MB VRAM

Hopefully this is enough info to help you folks figure out what might be the problem, and sorry if my writing is confusing. >.<

Play TPS mode, this is the only solution. Stuttering is very bad Bethesda disease.
