Requiem for a Dream

Post » Thu Aug 09, 2012 10:06 pm

Not much to say really, I just watched it (today). A disturbing masterpiece, it's a horror movie without any gore, very sad too I nearly cried near the end (and there's only one movie that ever made me cry so that's a big deal). Did anyone else watch it? What did you guys think of it?

You may have just saved someone from a life of drug and alcohol abuse. You are so caring.

It was good, but I didn't like it.

I'll leave it at that.

I think the music is cool, and I saw bits and pieces of the movie once.. but overall I don't really like it.

Don't do drugs, kids!

Also, the movie should tell people this.. plain and simple.

I'll apologize in advance to those who enjoyed this movie.

However, I hated this movie. I sat down to watch this, and honestly, I was ready to get emotionally involved and maybe have a good cry, but I was unable to suspend my disbelief, and I was unable to feel sad for any of the characters, because it wasn't drugs that ruined their life, it was their repeated moronic behavior and the moronic behavior of other people around them. I felt like the movie continuously insulted my intelligence.

The music was nice, of course, and the camera angles were certainly interesting, but the characters were shallow and inhuman, and the plot was a joke.

It may be my [censored] up sense of humour, but that scene made me laugh uncontrollably for like 5 minutes.

Keith David and his tribal dike svcking theory was equal parts awesome and disgusting. My kind of movie.

One of the films we watched in a Cinematography 101 course my Sophomore year. Also one of the highlights for me, alongside Citizen Kane and The Graduate.

I need to watch it again, it's been a while.

I'm not sure whether we were supposed to feel bad for the characters. I mean, sure there were times when I felt really bad for the girl (for example the phone call scene) but nobody else, really. The grandma for example, seemed to portray the obsession of being noticed, and admired and I thought her whole descent into insanity was funny and disturbing. I'm not sure what you mean by "the plot was a joke". It's a movie about junkies, not exactly Tolkienesque high fantasy.
