[DiscussList] Collaborative Modding - Share your Skills

Post » Fri Aug 10, 2012 10:50 am

Introduction:

Before reading further I would like to make the following clear; this is intended first and foremost to become a service to the users of this forum who wish to actively participate in the creation of mods. As with any service, if their proves to be no user base it will be allowed to die, however I sincerely hope this is not the case.

So, as often occurs in my brain, I have recently found myself with an abundance of ideas for things that would be fun to make. Based on the number of "Req" threads populating these forums, so has everybody else. The problem is in my case (well, problem numero uno at any rate) that I enjoy roughly half of the work that goes into creating the mods I think of, and then get annoyed or lose interest remarkably quickly. The reason for this is simply that I enjoy the design and texturing aspects of modding, but hate every second I spend in the CS (you can see how this could be problematic). For a long time I've thought I would someday try to join a group on some super-huge mod team working on major projects, but a certain fear of commitment has prevented me from jumping head long into a two-year project. I have at long last decided that the ideal environment for myself or anyone similar to me would be working in a pair or small group where I do the stuff I like/am-good-at, and other members with complimentary skills do the same. Rather than petitioning for helpers specifically on my half-brained projects, it occurred to me that it could prove useful to maintain a list of modders looking for work, so to speak. Thus I post here, and sincerely hope their are others who feel the same...

How it Works:

First and foremost let me stress that this is not meant as any type of commitment. I only intend for this to be used to say "hey, here's what I can do, and here are some things I PERSONALLY would like to work on." This brings me to my second point, this is NOT a Request thread. Please do not post "Hey guys, I see your all bored, why don't you make this SHINY WORLD OF WARCRAFT ARMOR for me!!" This thread is really meant for those looking to CREATE mods, but hopefully it will bear fruit which benefits everybody on these boards.

The information I WOULD like to see posted is the following:

1) - You volunteering to be on the list (which, as I've mentioned, commits you to nothing).

2*) - Your username on any related websites you wish to use in the modding process (by which I mean TESAlliance, Skyrim Nexus, etc, NOT facebook or other social networks).

3) - Your skills from the provided categories (or others if you think they've been skipped).

4*) - Links to samples of your work, IF you have something relelvant to show which you feel showcases your abilities in an adequate manner.

5*) - The type of project you would like to do, or, If you have a specific project you would like to collaborate on, you MAY post a name and description for it (at risk of beating a dead horse though, this must be something you are capable of working on and wish to pursue).

*These categories are entirely optional, but may useful to include

I will maintain a list here in the original post with each modders information, and if at any point you decide to remove yourself from the list simply tell me and I will make it be so (using my god-like powers over the list). I am of course putting myself on this list first (lead by example, yada-yada), and I sincerely hope their are others who will find this type of thread useful; I certainly know that I would utilize a resource like this if it took off.

One final note before we get to the good stuff: if you have skills in multiple categories here, I am more than happy to list in you in all of them, but please SPECIFY in which categories you belong.

The List:

The Categories right now are as follows: World Creators, Quest Makers, Scripters, Texturers, Modelers, Animators, Voice Actors, and Other Construction Set Skills.
I have INTENTIONALLY excluded a category for "Designers," as Ideas are abundant at this point and I'm expecting the majority of those who will potentially make their information available will already have some potential projects in mind.

Not like I needed to type MORE, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to set a framework for the kind of submissions I expect.

I would like to be added to:
Texturers

I am available on:
Skyrim Nexus and TESAlliance under the same name, although I don't use either as frequently as these forums.

Sample Work:
I have some really outdated http://platform.tesnexus.com/modules/members/index.php?id=789353, but I can (thankfully) say I have improved since, however the majority of my pet projects are to remain unreleased.

Interested In:
Honestly, I like making lots of varieties of vanilla objects, be they armors, weapons, clutter, or even http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=6229. I have a couple specific ideas in mind for massive numbers of recolored armors added to the levelled lists, but that would require I find someone to work with who doesn't hate the CS as much as me, haha.

I would love to contribute to some mods. Interesting thread

The problem is, I'm still fairly inexperienced with 3D modelling and texturing. So I need to keep building my skills before I distribute any content (I'd like to give high quality content obviously). The other issue would be time constraints :(

So basically I'm just posting to say I support this idea and type of community innovation, would be great to see people getting involved with this!
Good luck! (Honestly, everyone ought to jump on this bandwagon...in the name of the Queen or something)

VOLUNTEERED

I go by the same username on SkyrimNexus, but I haven't really posted any of the mods I've worked on.

~World Creators~

My main talents lie in world spaces, especially interiors. I'll be submitting to the next SkyRE challenge; I'll have links to include then.

I've moderate skill in using the Creation Kit, nothing too fancy, but I'm familiar with most functionality and am comfortable with leveled lists.

I'd love to be involved in any projects requiring dungeons or housing.

You forgot a section for Voice Actors!

I'm on Nexus and TESAlliance with the same name, but my work in Skyrim has been limited to a little weather edit thing. What I'm best at is retexturing, but I haven't done anything related to it for Skyrim yet. I'm a fan of making new races, which can be seen http://platform.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27402 for Oblivion and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7645 for Morrowind.

Since I bought a new mic a couple months ago, I've been trying to get into voice acting. The only project I've submitted work to is Castle Dovah, but the current version doesn't have my voice in there just yet. To listen to some samples and get more details on what I can do related to voice acting, check out my http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/topic/5100-matthew-kaines-archive/ for the Voice Actors Project.

I'd be more than happy to contribute any way I can to projects that could use my talents. I like working at my own pace, but I'm sure that's what everyone says here. Hope I can help!

Thanks, SilentSpike! I'm always happy to have support :D If there is ever a time when you wish to be added, you have only to ask. Good luck with your endeavors!

Welcome to the List!

I have added you to the World Creators Section, as you specified. If you would like to be listed under Other Construction Set Skills as well, I'll be happy to add you, just let me know if that is the case. I look forward to seeing samples of your work! Thanks for volunteering ;)

The following categories have been excluded intentionally: Designers, because everyone here is presumed to have an idea of the projects they would like to work on, and Voice Actors, because the http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/forum/74-voice-actors-project/ already exists.

Welcome to the List!

I didn't exactly forget Voice Actors, I just didn't want to do the same thing as TESAlliance... that said I have had a change of heart and decided to make a Voice Actors category, so thank you for volunteering!
With regards to your other work, would you like it to be recognized in any other categories? I was unclear when I initially wrote the post, but I will post the same person in multiple categories if they believe they belong, all you have to do is specify, and I will happily expand upon your entry. Thanks again!
