Olympics #2

Post » Fri Aug 10, 2012 5:01 pm

Continuation of the first thread, and also:

Folks, please remember that this thread is to discuss the Olympics and not for country bash or discuss world history. To celebrate individual athletic achievements and that the more people in a nation and the larger a nation, the more likely they will have more medals whether they be gold, silver or bronze. For some smaller countries, obtaining even one gold medal is a great accomplishment.

So please stay on topic and leave the country bashing alone.
Closed for post count. If another is started let us on the forum show good sportsmanship as it is practiced at the games themselves.

So don't go bashing on other countries. :nono:

Here is the current top ten as of today

1. United States of America - 39 gold, 90 total
2. People's Republic of China - 37 gold, 80 total
3. Great Britain - 25 gold, 52 total
4. Russian Federation - 12 gold, 56 total
5. Republic of Korea - 12 gold, 25 total
6. Germany - 10 gold, 37 total
7. France - 8 gold, 29 total
8. Hungary - 8 gold, 15 total
9. Italy - 7 gold, 19 total
10. Australia - 6 gold, 29 total

I've noticed that since all the obscure sports are over China struggles to get gold, so I'm going to guess the US will finish with the most gold.

Personal rant: what the hell happened to our volleyball players? They were supposed to take gold... Our match with Australia was already a joke, but then we lost to Russia 0:3 - it's like we didn't even put up a fight.

Don't they always? At least since the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
2008 doesn't count, it's understandable that China won the Olympics they hosted.

Yes, so I don't see what the problem is. :D And even with the USSR, I think they have won the most gold medals in most Olympics.

What on earth is up with the US woman's soccer team wearing those condescending t-shirts???It doesn't get much more tacky than this, whatever happened to a little humility.

I will once again say this: Hungary has 8 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze. We are #8 worldwide. And we're a country about the size of Ireland with a population smaller than Paris (yes the city). And baby, we are just getting started! Not too shabby.
