There is a hidden psychological danger to using mods...

...and that's becoming obsessive over updating, maintaining and adding to a huge load order, downloading and redownloading ENB configurations and constantly scanning for solutions you only just noticed because some whiner put up a complaint thread about it.

this results in a person spending more time mod managing then they do actually playing the game and enjoying it!

Personally, I tend to limit my load order to the bare minimum. I use a very low performance ENB, rather then trying to boost fps by constantly tweaking a performance heavy one.

The other thing I tend to do is only use very popular mods, unless the mod is a texture mod, which will often have fewer issues as it just is a directory and not an ESP (usually).

What things do other Skyrim fans use to stop modbsessing?

Diuscuss...

I wont mod my game untill Bethesda has released ther last DLC and their last update. That way, I wont have to reinstall and reconfigure the mods to be compatible with the last official update.

Plus, mods will be more polished by that time.

I don't update mods when I start a new play through plus I turn off Steam updating too. I go start to finish and don't worry about it. However, if I get CTDs, which is rare, then I look for the culprit and may end up updating, adding a fix if available.

Using this method along with careful research pre game - it takes me about 2-3 weeks of set up for each playthru. I just finish FalloutNV with over active 200 esms/esps (prob 300 total using bash) and had only 1 CTD going thru every quest and all DLCs.

I haven't played in weeks but I check the status of my mods several times a day. Same with Morrowind. I haven't left Balmora in years.....

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I swear, I've spent as much time looking for mods and doing mod "housekeeping" as I have spent playing the game. I guess for that reason I almost miss the console versions, where I could spend hours in Oblivion without ever thinking of adding or removing something. Still, it is nice to have so many great mods that enhance the games. If only there was a program that could alert me when the mods update and also show the changelog, and also download them and install them automatically. (Although i suppose Steam Workshop does this) then I wouldn't waste so much time checking for updates.

I like to update the mods I use when updates are available. I already was obsessive to begin with, so this barely means anything. I spend hours on my laptop just messing around because I enjoy tinkering with stuff. It might not be opening some random electronic, but it is still tinkering.

How about we accept that some of us actually enjoy both the game and messing around with mods? Mods are addictive, but for some, the tweaking is not harming the experience. I don't like to use tons of popular mods because a ton of hidden gems that actually might improve upon the game's experience without making things silly.

I don't stop "modsessing". I'm not obsessed. I'm just trying to find what works for me. Not all the popular mods cut it for me. Some of them just are female only stuff, and I play male characters. Some I don't care about using. I like looking for things that might not catch others' eyes. I do this for any medium. I've always preferred the stuff that not everyone and their dog are using when it comes to entertainment.

That's just how I roll.
