Vampires, Dragons, Death of NPC's.

One thing I could not stand when I first got TES Skyrim was the fact that dragons could kill anyone when they attacked a city.

To make things worse, now I got Dawnguard and VAMPIRE'S pop into towns unexpectedly and manage to kill more people than those damn dragons.

Now I got Ulfberth War-Bear dead in front of his blacksmith shop, two dead vampire thralls, and the remains of what appears to be the female blacksmith who works for Ulfberth (all that's left of her is an ash-pile).

So that's two NPC's - who I use quite often to sell my goods too - dead. I know I know, it doesn't break my game, but now it makes my game feel incomplete, and that really pisses me off.

Is the store going to be taken over by another group of people, or will it forever be abandoned? And there is absolutely NO WAY possible to bring back Ulfberth and the woman?

I believe their should be an option in the options menu to allow NPC's to die permanently or not, cause I am pretty pissed as of right now.

There's no way to bring back NPCs from the dead. There might be a console command if you play on the PC but I'm not fully sure about that. Their shop will stay empty though.

That's why I always save my game as often as I can. I had a whole bunch of people and towns folk die from dragon and vampire attacks. I just revert back to a previous save and keep doing that until I'm happy with the final outcome. Hopefully you have a former save you can go back to because it's the worst when you lose shop owners and merchants.

I've been having a streak of bad luck in the game as of lately.

Started off with a new character, an Imperial Legionnaire. I joined the Imperials as soon as I could, but I went to Dawnguard to get a crossbow. I went ahead and did the quest where you find Serana, but I contracted Vampirism, which is a total pain in the ass if you don't get rid of it.

So I had to put aside my Civil War questline, join the Companions to become a werewolf so I would not be a Vampire... and now dragons AND vampires are attacking cities.

Depending on the length of time between a previous save and the pile of bodies outside Warmaiden's, it may be worth reverting to an earlier save. I had something very similar happen, in the same location actually (minus the dragon). Both Ulberth and his wife ended up dead. Luckily I'd just zoned in, so I had an autosave to fall back on. Hopefully you do too.

I understand reloading a save file is a good idea... but I don't know when they died!

You see, I was busy fast-traveling between Dragonsreach (closer to the Companions HQ) and quest-objectives for the Companions, that I never went to the Plains District. So I have no idea how long they've been dead down there!

I forgot to mention BELETHOR was also killed in that attack.

Much my loot is sold Ulfberth and his wife, as well as Belethor.

Fast-traveling is likely to spawn a dragon attack when you go to a city and I'm told in the Dawnguard forum that it's like that for vampire attacks too. I only fast-travel near a city and walk the rest of the way. If that's what happened with you, you might try reloading and not fast-traveling to more populated areas. Good luck. :tes:

I can probably say this is 100% correct. When I fast-traveled to Windhelm for example, a dragon attack, and nearly every time I visit Winterhold for the first time a dragon attacks.

Oh well... Ihave the right mind to stop playing. Even now, as I am typing this, a dragon is attacking the village near dragonbridge.

either concentrate on completing the Dawnguard MQ or don't start it until you want to finish it. Rumor has it that completing the DG's MQ will remove random vampire attacks. I just finished DG so I can't confirm. I stayed away from everything when doing Dawnguard. Only returning to Whiterun to sell off/unload loot. Probably about every other fast travel there I would see the Traveler walking around outside the blacksmith. I'd just run up and kill him. End of problem.

At least us PCers can use mods or console commands to overcome this "problem"

Well I originally thought the DG questline would not affect anything until I was level 10. I was wrong, as I've had vampire attacks as early as level 6.

So I guess for every playthrough I'll have to do the DG quest first before anything else.
