Hey guys

I'm hoping to soon buy a used telescope on Craigslist and I'm wondering if anyone can offer me some advice. I have a few questions for people that have at least some knowledge of astronomy and specifically the practice. Any kind of suggestion is welcome.

Is there a certain quality cut off line in the telescope market? A price point where the functionality and quality of the telescopes drops to a low point?

Is buying a used telescope a good idea? Assuming that all of the knobs work and that the lens is intact?

Is there a specific telescope that you would recommend?

Is there a superior brand of telescope?

Do some telescopes have certain functions that make them vastly superior? Or does the price just rely on how much it magnifies the light?

What is a good amount of 'zoom' to have on a telescope?
