What did the new 27mb patch add to skyrim?

Post » Tue Aug 14, 2012 11:24 am

Just as the title says, I went to play Skyrim tonight after not playing it for nearly a month. And there was a 27mb update. What did it do? I couldn't really find anything about it on the web. (I.e. change log)

From what I know patch 1.7 didn't really fix or repair a whole lot. It definitely didn't fix any broken quests or anything like that. It basically only fixed some software issues.

Hmph :/ I've never seen an update as big as 27mb before. And yet it didn't really do anything? I was hoping for some major bug fixes/game changes... Guess I'll shelve Skyrim for a few more months, hope they get the bugs sorted out by then. Because right now, the games nearly unplayable for me. (Xbox)

Once I get it, will I be able to fight on horseback? Or do I need Dawnguard for that?

You don't need dawnguard for that. You just need the patch.

It apparently is more of a performance patch. At least on the PC. The patch might fix performance on the consoles, but the game is unpredictable no matter watch patch you have or what system you play on.

Really? The 360 is Beth's favourite system right now. I have Skyrim for it, and my only problem is occasional freezing.

Like I said, the game is unpredictable. Even if system favoritism is happening, the game is of the Bethesda breed. Games that breed with Bethesda game tend to be the ones with a insanity issues.

I'm having no real problems on PC. A clean CTD every now and then, but the game auto saves so often, that's nothing more than a nuisance at worst.

Here's the list from BethBlog-

  • General memory and stability optimizations
  • Fixed crash related to new water shaders
  • Fixed rare crash related to dragon landings
  • Fixed logic error with loading screens from add-ons (Xbox 360)
  • Using vampiric grip and swimming no longer prevents swimming animation from playing afterwards
  • Improved recognition with Kinect voice commands (Xbox 360)
  • Kinect-enabled dragon language shouts for French, German, Italian and Spanish work properly (Xbox 360)
  • Fixed issue with Dawnguard Kinect-enabled dragon shouts for French, German, Italian and Spanish (Xbox 360)

This is the most stable game I've ever played on PC. 500 hours and one CTD. Hard to get better than that.

You can turn the Autosave feature off under options.

Mounted combat is free and was added within one of the patches.

The mounted horseback was added in 1.6. Just saying in case someone is curious about which patch.

No, I meant that the CTDs are no real big deal, because the autosave happens so often that I lose very little progress. Plus I just save a lot anyway. I had thousands of saves for my last character.

Good call.

Also, aren't mounted and horseback sort of the same thing? Lol I'm just messing with you though, I got what you were saying.

Oh, I see. That makes sense. My apologies.

That would have been funnier if my post had said "PC"
