Anybody play a Rogue type character?

Post » Wed Aug 15, 2012 6:47 pm

I'm thinking of starting a rogue character to mix things up a bit from my main character (Crusader). I have only messed around with stealth type builds in Skyrim, I'm planning on finally doing the thieves guild and probably the DB, stay away from the MQ for the most part and not choose a side in the civil war. I'm just going to RP a loner who was in the wrong place at the wrong time and almost got his head cut off.

I like to have a good plan when it comes to perks and skills, it worked well for my crusader and I feel like it helps me RP better when I know what kind of character I am trying to "create". I have never been much of a stealth type person but Skyrim seems like the perfect place for a do what he wants, steal everything, kill anybody that gets in his way, kind of guy. This is what I have so far: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#175366 let me know what you think.....

Please feel free to leave me and tips on the build or anything else when it comes to playing a Rogue. :thanks:

I have a wood elf who I play like a rogue. She uses a bow/arrows and daggers. she mixes cure potions from ingredients I find. I try not to use magic. She relies very heavy on stealth and pickpocket. She's fun to play but I enjoy my brute force Orc and Nord more.

I have messed with different types of builds. Most are some variation of a warrior. I like the idea of playing a do what he wants thief/assassin type. How does my build look? Any tips?

Get that first pickpocket perk early on. That 20% boost, especially early game, will help tremendously.

Probably take that last perk (Bull's Eye) out and put it in the second Steady Hand. I heard Bull's Eye is kinda buggy, like they'll paralyze and fall at the beginning of a killcam and then your arrow will miss.

Rogue to me is a stealth based charcter that will steal the shirt off your back. He is a master archer and skillful with daggers. Blends in with the night and is very very smart. He can talk his way out of most situations but when he can't he'll fight till the end.

bulls eye is pretty buggy, it would explain the instant paralysis which svcks because i Would stack the paralysis effect with a paralysis enchantment and almost every shot would paralyze.

I had a pretty awesome Wood Elf myself on Xbox 360 before jumping to PC, stealth Assassin who used the Bound Bow and conjured followers, little to no melee and regularly pulled aggro using the Bloodied Targe (looks like a Buckler kinda, only had Vanilla to play around with :P) while my followers did the business. Great fun tbh, felt totally immersed and engrossed, will have to remake him with some modded goodness. :D

I agree: leave out the last Archery perk. I took Speech up to Merchant so I could sell anything to any vendor, which was helpful. However, it's not really necessary if you're going to do the Thieves Guild quests right away (I delayed them awhile).

I also wonder why you're taking all the Heavy Armor Smithing perks if you're only wearing Light Armor?

Yeah I think I might add some speach perks in there but as very minor skills, I do plan on starting the thieves guild pretty early on. I went heavy side because I can make better daggers and bows that way. I have read that's what a lot of people do. Anybody have advice on this?

I think it's a waste. A rogue character is uniquely well-positioned to find excellent weapons and armor without having to craft them. That's not even taking into consideration the specialized gear you get by doing the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood quests.

You can power-level Smithing just fine by crafting your basic Iron daggers (which you can then enchant to level Enchanting). Crafting jewelry is also handy--you'll be finding tons of jewels. The only perks I'd take in Smithing are the basic one, because you have to, and the one that lets you improve already-enchanted weapons and armor.

Its still worth it since it stacks with a paralyze bow.

As for the general build, I roll with a Dark Elf Vampire Assassin. I'm unbelievably OP and I'm unfair without stacking.

This is how I got there:

http://ca.ign.com/builds/the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim?d=0000000000000000001011111111110100010110000000000000000000000000000000000000000000510011111111111000000000000000000000000000000000000000051111231150000000011111151111111011111001111

Equipment:

Dragonplate everything (substitute with your enchantable light armor of choice for non-Dawnguard play) +1 necklace and 1 ring with these enchants

resist frost, fire, shock, magic
fortify health, stamina, magicka, sneak, archery

Dragonbone Bow with these ehcnants (I enchant a set of blacksmithing armor and use potions to create a 700 damage bow, you can stack if you want but I'll tell you right now, anymore then 700 damage gets silly)

Fiery Soul Trap, Paralyze

Then what I do for combat is this:
Sneak (if you did it right you will be undetectable, Ive had enemies brush up against me and they haven't detected me), cast Mayhem, summon 2 Dremora Lords, start shooting your arrows.
When you see a dragon don't use mayhem, instead use your marked for death shout and dragonrend and lol as your dremora lords+your bow eat it for breakfast. If its a tough dragon then bide your time and keep casting marked for death (its effect stacks so it'll have -armor and take stupid amounts of damage per hit).
