Skyrim- Is it wrong if I hate you?

Post » Thu Aug 16, 2012 1:23 am

So, I know the topic is misleading, albeit unintentionally. But I recently bought Skyrim, and I've come to a conclusion. I hate about 75% of Skyrims population that I've met so far. No matter how much I help people, fight dragons, I still get crap for the smallest things, even being an Imperial (My preferred race). Maybe I'm just being to 'Glorify the Hero' here, but I'm slowly inching to the idea of just letting my thief say 'screw you all' and let the dragons take over. :verymad:

I feel you Martyr, I hate most of the population as well. There are only a few NPC's I don't mind, like Alvor.

Yeah the NPCS are generic, and I hate how there is no player recognition, that's what bugs me more. Even if I am an Altmer, I shouldn't have to take crap from that guy in Riften if I saved the world from being destroyed.

Farengar makes me mad every time. WHY must he be essential? :swear:

Nothing wrong with that. I've had a char where she just sat on a rock ledge nearby and watched people going by, thinking how they could all just rot.

It doesn't really help that about 50 percent of the named population is essential, and that quests can usually only be done one way, so you can't get back at them non-lethaly either. And you can't even be a jerk in dialog!

They've always hated the Dragonborn, as the majority of the NPCs you can't talk to and they usually have the same greeting even after all you've done like saving Nirn etc...

Ex "Have you been to the cloud district yet..."

Ah, so I'm not alone in my disgruntledness. I've enjoyed the world itself, but the people itself annoys me. I'm pretty sure I'd have better luck befriending a Skeever than having people in Skyrim like me. Ironically, the only people in a 'profile' basis I actually like are the people in the Thieves Guild.

Now if we're going by the title, there ain't nothing wrong with hating Skyrim. But since we're going off the people, same thing really. Most of these NPCs don't have half the writing of the characters of New Vegas. They're all just terribly written, with a diamond in the rough being some of The Thieve's Guild members, and perhaps a Legate. Everyone else should be dead, and I'm working on that.

If there had of been more dialouge options it may have gone some way to reducing the frustration, even if it was just a reply like "get [censored]". The only reply you can make to some of these NPCs is tag along behind them in the dark and do something physically nasty to them, but then half are essential so it just adds to the frustration - they can run their mouths ragged and their protected by Akatosh, your only the Dragon born and your not protected.

The quality of NPCs is rather ... low compared to OB and FO3. At least PC players can make them non-essential.

I often do that in RL.

Reminds me of the song Hate Everything About You by Three Day's Grace. The main lyrics your hear are: I hate everything about you, why do I love you?

I find it much more rewarding to be a villain in this game than to be a hero. There is nobody yelling " The Hero of Kvatch" or in this case " The Hero of Skyrim, the slayer of the world eater, the Dragonborn". I think if people were more generous as they were in Oblivion it would be a major improvement.

Unlike previous Bethesda games, I feel no connection to any of the population in Skyrim. I personally couldn't care less what happens to any of them...well, except maybe Delphine... whom I'd like to do this to. :gun:

I don't hate Skyrim either, I just don't feel a connection with it in any sense. IMO it doesn't feel like TES anymore. At least there's still Fallout...I hope.

Imperial master race, reporting for duty.

I feel the same way, Colonel. However, I feel this way in a lot of games. It's pretty bad in Skyrim, but the worst ever was when playing Crisis Core. I felt like laying waste to every damn person living in the slums of Midgar.

I can relate to this. I love Skyrim, but when I play it I'm playing Skyrim... not TES. But the people in Skyrim.. no real connection there. I don't know why, just don't. Perhaps it's due to it not feeling like TES.
