Dragon Age Origins - Can I Run It?

Post » Sat Aug 18, 2012 5:45 am

I loved the original Dragon Age, but gave up with it once I got stuck within the Fade part of the game and my brother has since sold his copy. I meant to buy the Ultimate Edition for Xbox 360, as it has all the DLC, but ended up with Dragon Age 2 instead. And, despite what others said, I actually really liked Dragon Age 2 (yes, I know, shoot me). However, having read an article on Knights of the Old Republic going free-to-play, I only just remembered what an awesome game Origins was. Since the PC has mods (mainly one which allows you to skip that small Fade labyrinth part which I hated so much), is supposedly the better version, and doesn't cost no more than the 360 version, I wouldn't mind getting it on Steam. However, since integrated/laptop GPUs aren't always supported, I'll ask whether or not the people here think I can run it (especially since a lot of Bethesda fans are PC users I believe).

AMD Athlon II X2 64-bit processor P320 clocked at 2.1Ghz
Windows 7 Home Premium Service-Pack 1
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 with 256MB Dedicated VRAM
4GB DDR3 Memory/RAM
500GB HDD with 406GB presently available

So, will I be able to run Dragon Age: Origins (Ultimate Edition) on at low/medium at a solid 30 fps at least?

I am not sure whether the Ultimate Edition, which I want to run, has a higher specification for all the DLC than the base game though?

Thank you. It does that for me too, saying I can't run a game when I actually can and vice versa.

Hmm. I was going to say that I ran DA:O on my iMac with an HD2600 mobility/256mb, so you should be fine..... but doing a "compare 2600M to 4250M" search, it turns out that the 4250 is weaker than the 2600. Gotta love coherent numbering schemes.

Yes. I always assumed that a higher number meant a better card, but that really isn't the case.

Anyone know whether or not I could run it? I am not an expert at graphics cards and sites such as Yahoo answers always lead me astray with what I can actually run.

Please don't bump threads with a post every few minutes. If people have info, they will respond. Just be patient.

They're very coherent.

In an WXYZ numbering scheme (as ATI uses):

W: Generation of the card
X: Card Family
Y & Z: Variant of the card.

So -

A 2600 is a 2nd Generation HD card, in the 600 family, at a base level variant.
A 4250 is a 4th Generation HD card, in the 200 family, in the midrange of the specific family.

Also, anything under [x]500 in ATI cards is a "business-level" card. Not a "gaming-level" card. So a 6770 is a better "gaming" card than a 8250, for example.

Yes, but could I run the game or not?

I'm going to say yes. I'm not 100%, but I've made far greater miracles happen in the past.
