Medical annecdotes; achilles tendon and pulled muscles

Hey folks,

Before folks say go ask an MD, I already did and am following his advice.

Seems that I'm not as young as I used to be, and I'm not healing as fast as I used to. :cane: I have two problems going on and am looking for how long it takes folks to recover from the injuries, or what you've done to get better.

First up is a pulled brachiroradialulus (sp?), or that muscle on your forearm which really gets worked when doing reverse curls. It's been sore for 4 weeks, and I haven't used it streniously in that time. Pain comes when with even a light load placed on it. MD's advice was basically rest - which I've been doing and it hasn't gotten better. Anti inflamatory meds as well because of the tendonitis below. I've been using a heating pad intermittantly over the last week to no apparent help.

I get accute pain if I use the muscle, for which I'd use ice. However, there's no swelling, and with the length of injury, I'm thinking heat would be the answer. What's worked for you?

The second is some achillies tendonitis. I have bumps about dead center on the tendon that when squeezed are painful. Pain is present first thing in the morning, and comes and goes throughout the day. 2o years ago I had the same situation, and the docks put me on profile and put some felt in teh back of my combat boots. It worked. Current MD said that it's probably an aggravation of that old injury and told me to do anti inflamatories, put lifts in my shoes under the heels to lessen the strain, rest, and ice if needed. I've been doing as directed and wearing shoes that don't rub the area.

I don't remember how long it took for this to heal before. Some googling shows that it takes a few days to weeks for this to get better. So, those with angry tendons, how long has it taken you to get better? Any tips?

Methinks I'm just getting older, and healing is taking longer, but looking for other experiences and advice.

Cheers!

Sounds like it is a case of healing takes a little longer...

Anyway, if you haven't already, notify your MD that the muscle in your forearm doesn't seem to be getting better with the advice he's been giving you. Also, you may want to see if asprin would help with the pain it's been giving you, provided it doesn't react badly with any other meds you've been given. If your MD doesn't change his advice, then try placing heat. I can't see it really negatively affecting your progress, and since ice isn't working, there's no harm in trying heat instead, or maybe one of those hot/cold pads.

However, this is all my opinion, since I've yet to have the types of injuries you've received, so feel free to ignore it!

I'm not familiar with the term. Is that physical therapy, or a brace?
