Guns or powers,but not both?

I notice that Corvo uses his left hand for both magic and his gun/crossbow. Does this mean the use of both simultaneously isn't possible?

Yes, that's exactly what it means. A very good design decision. Besides you can switch between both fairly fast so it isn't a problem.

Not sure if it's a good or bad feature, will have to wait until i've played it to judge.

But yeah, with the hotkeys, it should be fairlly easy and fast to switch between powers and equipment.

I dont really have a problem with it providing the controls are responsive. I really would like to see a demo released in the next few weeks to get some time with the systems before diving in on release day.

It is a good feature since it makes things less chaotic. Having your abilities and gadgets at the same time is just too much utility all at once and can reduce challenge. You can place a trap while blinking or windbalst some guards and throw grenades at others. Just too many things at once can be too chaotic and really defeat the purpose of those abilities' standalone effectiveness.

Bioshock 2 and Dark Messiah did that and people didn't find it as a problem at all because the gameplay was still top notch. And that's the whole point of that design, to make the gameplay better and to make you think and react fast, hone your skills and be creative.

As for the demo it looks like it's not going to happen, at least from what I've been hearing. Bethesda are making a bad move on this one but a lot of people did play the game and found it amazing. Demos are always appreciated but the developers won't go out of their way to make a demo before they finish the game if they are on such a tight schedule. I am sorry but this is a business above all else and we as consumers should be patient if we want quality out of out games.

.

I see your point, although i sounds like a system like that would open op a lot of bum-f'ckery, which i like. But in the end i guess it's all about the balance between fun, and user-friendlieness(yeah, that's a word)

The fact of the matter is that if you possess the skill to do those thing you can and over time you will manage to if you need it. It depends on the player, situation and so on but really it isn't a bad design choice.

Arkane obviously have 2 demo's up and running.I really don't see an issue with releasing either one before the game ships.

Bethesda's call, not Arkane's. And technically they are 3 but how finished or what kind of software they use to keep them up because demos tend to be quite buggy especially if they are designed beforehand for game shows and conventions. So there's a lot of problems and we really can't complain.

I think it's pretty balanced not being able to use gadgets and powers at the same time. I have really no problem with it.

I don't see why it would be. The game has a certain dynamic and pace to it and keeps to that.

Interesting. Did not notice that from gameplay. I guess the knives, daggers or cleavers are still able to be used. Fair enough. Not planning on using many guns. Gonna love that crossbow as much as the shotgun in DE:HR. And of course, magic. I usually play as mages so ill be right at home

I'm pretty sure you're only gonna be able to equip "corvo's sword".

You can equip other swords (daggers) as seen in the E3 gameplay trailer. It probably won't offer any gameplay variety though so don't expect too much from that feature.

Interesting. You'd think that you would prefer a more similar weapon like the pistol in Dishonored. The pistol starts off like a shotgun essentially with a large spread but you can upgrade it to be more of a sniper if you like.

I personally didn't like the shotgun in HR. Maybe because it was too powerful, maybe because TF2 made it with a much more slicker design and I constantly play with it on there. My favorite weapon (which I suspect will be the same here) was the crossbow. After I had gotten enough ammo for it it became my main weapon. It's silent, it has range and it's deadly due to it offering really nice attachments. And, of course, the possibility to have infinite ammo with that thing via the "collect arrows you've already used" feature.

I tend to dislike having to be too dependent on gathering resources for my weapons. I have OCD that I always should be at max health and/or mana, that I should have max ammo and so on. It's a really nasty and annoying thing but I gotta live with it. And I've shot bows and crossbows in real life and can't get enough of how joyful that is. On top of that I like both the gun and the crossbow design in Dishonored and their upgrade visual changes. Can't wait to toy around with those.

Thinking about the blade he uses when defending himself against the weeper?

So far, that's the only one i've spotted.

Yes exactly that one. I believe there was a screenshot of him holding a small stilleto-like knife as well. Can't remember where I saw it but looking over the wiki might help with that.

It might actually offer some gameplay variety although not a big one. After all we have a bone charm that improves your swing speed with the sword, daggers might have a more inferior blocking but a lot more speed. We'll see when the game comes out.

Yeah, i'm pretty sure that Arkane did not put different blades in the game, for the hell of it.

So i'm utterly convinced that there will be different pros/cons for each one.

Or they might not be. In which case we'll have to wait and find out. But even if there is, signature weapon all the way, everyday!
