How can nords hate magic when their ancestors used it?

Post » Thu Aug 23, 2012 5:02 am

By ancestors I mean Draugr. The nords seem to respect the nordic ruins around skyrim but they have a strong hate for magic. I was wondering if they shun the ancient nords for using it? Maybe I'm missing some lore here. I just thought it was strange .

The Great Collapse and the evil magic loving Thalmor are a big reason.

Because the nords now are not the nords of old. They have forgotten their high regard for the Clever Craft.

Nords are also staunch opponents of Julianos, historically.

But isn't that a little weird? That's like all of the orcs saying forget the old ways lets become mages. I think some lore was left out because none of the nords mention their ancestors using magic or why they don't follow in their footsteps.

Nords are also staunch opponents of Julianos, historically.

I will have to do some research on this. Thanks for the info.

Ideas change over time. What was once commonly accepts becomes offensive. Major events could change an entire culture. Who knows, maybe one day the orcs will be facing extinction from a race of mages and will have to rally around their few mages leading to an age where orc mages are heroes and all orcs want to be mages.
