360, Is There a Way to Remove the Compass?

Post » Fri Aug 24, 2012 6:04 am

(I searched it up, couldn't find anything)

I have a dream! That dream is to play Skyrim without anything popping up on my screen! Lol

I don't think I can remove the compass via the menu (I might not be looking in the right spot)

I bet computer users may have a mod for this, but it doesn't much help me on the 360.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Lol and no, I'm not going to put duct tape on my TV screen. xD

Hm? Can you do that? xD

I'm going to give it a shot at least.

Well, what do you know? You solved my problem.

Only issue now is the health bar I can't see, but I can still pay attention to when the heartbeats start pumping.

Yes, there's a slider in the options menu for HUD opacity.

You're awesome. Thanks for pointing that out for me. I feel kind of stupid now. Lol

I tried it once, but it also makes the crosshair transparent too.
Bit of a bugger for aiming. Don't see why it should do that tbh - there's a whole other option for turning off the crosshair... :(

I play like this, much more fun I think. If you play like this with the music turned off and don't fast travel then I find the game so much more fun.

It's difficult to aim with the bow without the compass

You learn after a while, same with magic. I find that it makes it more difficult for that reason, but you learn o work out where your arrow or spell are going to go after a while playing like this. The only downside hat bugs me is when you want to pick something up, but your not sure if it will be stealing or if your allowed to pick it up. But then you become more careful.

I also play like this and the immersion is great! It's pretty easy getting used to the bow and arrow without crosshair, but the crossbow is rather difficult to get used to. Takes more time. All in all in my opinion, it makes the game difficulty higher than master.

I've practiced archery without the crosshair on. Typically, I keep it off because if you play around enough with it, you can learn to shoot precisely. I've been able to hit archers up in the towers like this with the 2nd or 3rd shot.

I so agree. I've been trying it out for several hours now, and I'm loving it.

It's nice being able to go up to something (knowing that you can loot it) but not knowing if it's empty or not.

Having the compass off makes the game much more immersible, and makes you utilize your map even more.

Not being able to aim down the crosshair with a bow is exactly how I like it. I've tried shooting a bow in high school, and I svck at it. That's exactly how it should be. :)

No matter where you point, the crosshair is always dead centre in your TV screen. You can start by lining it up that way when you play with HUD opacity switched off. If you miss with the first shot, you can then make the minor adjustments needed to get on target.

Watch this video for some examples of that. http://youtu.be/5kP3qOCn9wM
I started playing like that because it makes my videos look a lot more cinematic - but it's also a lot more satisfying

I have to agree with you on that one. You actually feel like you're earning every shot when you successfully hit the enemy.

And people say you cannot use mods on the consoles. ;) A piece of electrical tape is one of Renee Gade's oldest and favorite mods.

I play w/o the HUD for my Hunter/explorer. As she used the bow the most I got very good at it. It actually helped with my other characters, even when they do use the HUD. I have another character that I am going Hudless with, she will be more of a explorer/treasure hunter.

OP as you found the HUD slider, I'm going to guess that you saw the brightness also? right above it? another good "360 mod" is to darken the game. I adjusted my tv 1st ( as it was kinda bright to begin with) then went to Whiterun at night and turned down the slider to your desired darkeness. I have it set just slightly below 1/4, on the road and in caves and dungeons you have to use a torch.

+1

Music doesn't have to be off but it's also a bit fun for an Immersion addition.

Holy crap, you guys are wonderful. I tried to figure out a way to get rid of that compass. No more HUD, game darker, I'm in rpg heaven.

Thank you folks for this thread.

I had to come back and add in this: The atmosphere with these changes is just freaking awesome. I am blown away.
