What's the deal with giants?

They seem pretty docile, but every jarl has contracts out to have them killed.
Anybody else think this seems a little odd?

Lol Seinfeld.

I just assume they can be considered a potential threat. You never know about giants...

No considering how many I've run into on the roads next to Whiterun picking off guards. If I was Jarl I would to. My thief Panthero ran into a group of three around Hanningbrew Meadery long after the companions killed one around there.

Giants are very territorial.

Assuming this is why the jarl posts a bounty, I would say people are walking on the roads and are being attacked by nearby giants.

Some will let you approach them, but most of them get angry if you get nearby.

It's almost like watching the Crocodile Hunter show. "Oh! He's Angry! He's Angry!" :P

Aside from

Spoiler
Skald, who apparently wants you to kill a giant merely as a big "screw you" to the Empire

the Jarls' bounties for giants (at least in my experience) always reference a particular giant who has become a threat to the hold in some tangible way. So in that case I don't mind having to go take them out.

The rest of the time I just try to stay out of their way and hope they stay out of mine. And they've come in very handy on more than one occasion - a couple of them cleared the entire exterior of a bandit camp once while I watched from a nearby hillside, making my job there a whole lot easier. And I've gotten desperate enough at low levels to lead enemies into giant camps a couple of times and then had a lot of fun watching my would-be assailants get curb-stomped.

Not strange, if they are hungry then they will look for food where ever they can. The Jarl's only get you to kill one's that have been causing problems from what i recall, i dont do those missions anymore.

I believe giants were supposed to trade with the player(came up with this after reading a note nailed to a sign post at Steamcrag camp available here http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Official_warning , also this would explain why they have a similar inventory to hunters) but at some point of the development the crew decided to keep them as they are now.

I also read a thread on this forum, where this modder noticed that Bethesda had a lot more planned with the Civil War quest-line, including the
recruitment of Giants to fight for one of the sides. Apparently, Bethesda had originally alot more planned for the Giants and the PC's interactions
with them. I bet you also remember that in the gameplay video launched by Bethesda prior to the game's release, there was actually an option to
talk with a giant walking right by. A real shame it isn't so, but we can always hope that Bethesda will try and complete and add the content they didn't
had time for in the first place. Giants are great!

I've never seen them off their camp sites anywhere. They should let them be more interactive.

1. They could wander into towns looking for a drink
2. Could be recruited as a follower...now that would be fun.
