Help - I am a vampire and don't know why

Post » Fri Aug 24, 2012 8:51 am

Warning: This may have minor spoilers related to the Dawnguard and Companions questlines.

So I just finished the Dawnguard main quest, playing on the side of the Dawnguard. Upon emerging into the sunlight for the first time since finishing it, I started getting warnings about how I was suffering various symptoms as a result of my "vampiric blood". The thing is, due to a bug I encountered awhile ago, I never finished the Companions questline so I am permanently stuck as a werewolf. I was under the impression that since being a werewolf gives you 100% disease resistance, it was impossible to contract vampirism. Anyway, I was busy at the time and I figured when I eventually got back to town I would visit a shrine and get cured. I tried that with no luck, so I looked up Vampirism and learned that after three days you need to actually undergo a quest that can be initiated by asking any innkeeper about rumors. I have now asked multiple innkeepers and no one has directed me to the guy that you are supposed to see to start the quest. I keep asking each about rumors until the dialogue option goes away. Have I just been unlucky? Do I need to find other innkeepers and keep asking until the right topic comes up at random? Or is this some weird bug and I am now stuck as both a vampire and a werewolf? Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, if you are a werewolf you can't contract the vanilla vampirism. But, if you have started dawnguard and have accepted a gift from a certain big bad bat daddy it will replace the wolf in you. Afaik in that case you can get lycanthropy again from Aela.

instead of asking innkeepers, just
Spoiler
Go to Morthal, and find the Redgaurd wearing robes. I forget his name, but he will be in his house. Bring him a filled black soul gem (you can get one from Harkon's body) and talk to him. He will notice you are a vampire and you can ask him to cure you, he will ask for the gem and you give it to him. Then he will have you meet him somewere at Dawn and he will cure you.
if that doesnt work, youre screwed

He's called Falion and another place to get a black soul gem would be the CoW if you're a member.

I did not accept the gift you mentioned. I really have no idea how I got it unless
Spoiler
I got bit by him or one of his friends during that final battle at Castle Volkihar.

When I read about the cure online it says he will only discuss it with you if an innkeeper turns you on to the quest first. You are saying I can just approach him directly? I have seen him before and have the required item already in my inventory.
