Counter Strike Global Offensive and Call of Duty

Post » Fri Aug 24, 2012 5:37 pm

Ok so my brother likes to play Multiplayer on both Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops (for just short bursts, but pretty much everyday) and he's looking for something new, but still the same multiplayer feel.. So my question is this:

For the people who have or are playing CS:GO on Xbox, compared to MW3 or Black Ops how is:
  • Multiplayer. How is it compared to CoD games, is it the same feel?
  • What kind of game types does Counter Strike have that CoD games may not?
  • Weaponry. Are there more or less, or better or worse weapons in CS:GO (opinions of course, but if you could also describe some of it along with customization please)
  • Clans, can you make clans and such on the game?
  • How is the connection, plus is it hosted by other players which would also add to lag?
Thanks in advance for all opinions, and this is not a "versus" thread, I'm just trying to get opinions and answer the big question:

Is it worth buying Counter Strike: Global Offensive on the Xbox 360?

Note: My brother also like Sniping, so is Sniping decent on this game?

I haven't played CS:GO but here is something you might want to consider asking as well:How is the lag/connection? Some multiplayer games get some pretty shoddy connections. ALso, is it dedicated servers?

Tell him to buy Battlefield 3 then if he likes Sniping.

And if he wants that close quarters stuff he can always buy the close quarters DLC.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is probably the best "pure" multiplayer FPS game available today. It's very much skill-based since there are no ranks or unlocks. That doesn't mean it isn't rewarding though

Much faster and fun
What kind of game types does Counter Strike have that CoD games may not?
Nothing but S&D type games
Weaponry. Are there more or less, or better or worse weapons in CS:GO (opinions of course, but if you could also describe some of it along with customization please)
No customiziation in CS:GO all guns handle differently
Clans, can you make clans and such on the game?
I don't know about xbox, but you kinda can on PC

No idea about XBOX, I play on PC.

Multiplayer is vastly different than CoD's, you have to play smarter and be aware of what's going on as compared to CoD.
Mostly the same gametypes.
I imagine CoD has more weapons, but they are more balanced in this game. There is no customization in CS:GO.
CS:GO is a very competitive game, with tournaments being common place in CS 1.6 and CS Source.
Takes a while, at least for me, to find a match on CS:GO.
Sniping is rewarding, but it definately takes skill.

By no customization, does that mean you can't mod weapons?

By no customization, I mean absolutely nothing except your loadout at the beginning of a round is customizable.

My only gripes about CS:GO are:

No ADS.

No going prone.

It calls itself a tactical shooter but plays more like Halo. Not that theres anything wrong with Halo but its not what I'd expect from a "tactical shooter".

I'm going to give it a try, see what it's like. I don't really care for Halo, but we'll see how this rolls out

You couldn't go prone in the older games, why are you missing it now?

Tactical doesn't necessarily mean realistic. It's tactical because tactics matter, versus just running around and shooting everyone on TDM in another game.

Going prone and ADS would both be terrible in CS. If you really want ADS you can always use the AUG and Krieg. (they both have scopes)

Because it just feels behind the times by not including it. Not that this game actually needs it, there isn't much tactical stuff going on in this game anyways. It might be a quick diversion for an hour or two but if I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have bought CS:GO.

When I say tactical, I don't mean Call of Duty or Battlefield. Tactical would be something like Rainbow 6. However, Rainbow 6 was TOO tactical. Something in-between the two would be nice.

@deacon As for running around shooting each other, thats all I'm seeing in CS:GO. :P

How is the game not tactical? You have an objective and a number of different pathways as well as a variety of weapons that can change the tactics of a game.
