Finding Spell Tomes

Post » Fri Aug 24, 2012 11:40 pm

I feel like spell tomes as loot may need to be tweaked a bit. It seems like in my travels, if I luck up and find a find spell tome on a mage or in a chest,
it is always a novice and I already have purchased it ages ago.

Not to mention, I find so few spell tomes, that if I try to not purchase them, I find myself not being able to hold my own against tougher enemies. So,
I break down and buy them.

Have any of you ever found a spell tome higher than novice? It gives me satisfaction to find a spell tome in my exploring. I just wish I could find
something higher than novice sometimes.

Maybe they should remove purchasing spell tomes? It is so much better to find them you know. :)

I think that depends on your current level and/or level from your school of magic (Not sure about last one). But it goes same like armor. At level 1 you will not find ebony armor or daedric, nor you will find glass sword. Depends on your current level. Same goes for tomes. Adept, Expert, etc, will be in those chests once your level is high enough.

Oh, I wonder if that perk in Lockpicking, treasure hunter, would increase the finding of spell tomes?

Everything inside of chest is a treasure, so I think it would. But that is just my opinion ofc.

If you're buying all spell tomes as soon as they are available for your character then yeah, you won't find any "new" tomes in random loot.

I think what I am going to do is not purchase spell tomes and search the world for conjurers and necromancers to kill. Though, I do not much
like killing my fellow necromancers, however, they try to kill me, so...

I found Stoneflesh on a non-Alteration-using character a while ago, and Dread Zombie on a conjurer which never got it "normally" before, a long time ago. But also some Firebolts, runes and advanced Healing spells, on different characters. Probably more, but I can't remember.

The best I've ever found is Pacify, but you find so few... I agree that you should find some more.

There's a few that are always in the same location. Bound Bow, Cairvoyance and Flame Cloak that I know of.

Grand Healing but my character was level 48 or 49 at the time. Some spells like bound bow, or transmute can always be found in one spot.
