What are your reasons for gettingdeactivating facebook?

I've seen people mention a few good reasons already in the other thread about privacy, but in this thread I'm curious as to the reasons people got facebook in the first place and how long it took them to get rid of it. I've already mentioned how I still have mine, but will be getting rid of it soon because I've grown apart from people and it's usefulness is almost out. The only real use it has to me now is the small amount of "Likes" that I have, which have informed me of movies coming out soon that I want to see.. but I have so few of them that they don't bother me much. I also mentioned that I'm guilty of friending people I've never met, but I never got a high amount of friends nor did I do that too often but I'll be removing a lot of people before I trash it.

As for my own reasons, I got into social media in 2006 when I was still in High School and I wanted to keep in touch with friends.. then I dug deeper and found someone I met a long time ago. Over the years though, my connections slowly wavered and eventually I came to the point I'm at now where I feel there's not much of a connection at all. I'm not a very social person except when it comes to family, so I'd say that's the main reason why I've grown apart from them in such a short time, along with how they have so many other friends. Once I feel that facebook depletes its usefulness to me, I'm going to go ahead and scrap it.. but that time has not come yet, although I might try to keep in touch with one or two people afterwards.

So, with that said.. what are your reasons for getting into social media/facebook and what made you sever your ties with it?
