I am getting SICK of these [censored] NPC crashes.

Post » Sun Aug 26, 2012 7:40 am

I just can't take it anymore! It seems that every time there's a fair amount of npcs fighting in any area (like say 30-50, sometimes not even!) I always get Fing freezes/ctds (ESPECIALLY when I open some sort of menu, like the favorites/items/loot/etc). Which is a real pain in the ass because now I can't play the mods I really want to like Warzones or Occupy Skyrim or even Tundra Defense.

How the hell is it that other people can have like 200 or so NPCS and not crash, yet I wander into ONE little warzone or start one little raid in Tundra Defense with nowhere close to that number and suddenly "Oh hey you're having fun time to crash the game".

Here's my load list. someone tell me what I'm doing wrong.

It could be Dawnguard, looking at your specs you got yourself a good set-up. I have had the same thing kinda, random freezing ever since I started with Dawnguard. I've tried a lot of things with the mods and nothing changed the randomness of the freezing.

Yeah come to think of it, it wasn't really this bad untill I got back into the game to play dawnguard.

Why does it seem that every new version/patch just makes things worse?

Though on the topic of CTDs, here's another annoying thing I've been having:

Random CTDs when casting spells/shouting shouts (usually in a fight, but i've had it happen outside of combat too).

Usually only happens when using elemental spells (I think).

Used to be that NPCs casting spells also caused CTDs though that's gone I think.

Unfortunately this one is quite random, so it's hard to pinpoint it. And Unfortunately I can't blame this one on dawnguard since i've been having this problem since at least 1.4

Hmm, that is something that is unknown to me aswell. You're probably right about that one not being Dawnguard, I don't have those CTD's during spells/shouts. This stuff keeps reminding me of the irony of this game, this game is completely epic.. when it works. It always seems that there's always something that makes the game annoying.

But getting back to the problem with NPCs.... could someone PLEASE tell me what I have to do to make it work so I can have battles of more than 10 people without crashing?!

I had, the same problem when started to play Dawnguard. Do your game crash on desktop with no error or something like that, or just freeze?!
I remember that i lowered shadow details to low... Not sure if that will help you...

Both. Usually the latter, but sometimes the former.

It was same with me, try that to set shadow details to low, that helped me, when that started to freeze/crash to you? After adding some mods, patched the game, or just randomly?

I had a perfect crash-free game with tons of mods before Dawnguard and 1.7 version and then CTDs and the anonying dialogue bug. So I had to go back to 1.68, I didn't like Dawnguard that much anyway (never been a fan of vampires/werewolfs, I think Twilight just ruined it for me).

I use a lot of mods, including major overhauls like SkyRe and Morrowloot, and a lot of NPCs adding mods (Immersive Patrols, Lively Taverns, Travellers of Skyrim, Immersive NPCs, ASIS, SkyMoMod, Dwemer Spectres, etc.) and several quest mods that I like to go through with most characters since they add more to every character's playthrough (I don't like to play guild quest lines on characters that don't fit the role). As well as pretty high graphics standard, Texture Pack Combiner with all high-res versions including many of the miscs, max quality ENB mod, etc.

Unfortunately, the instability caused just don't justify crossbows and some vampire/werewolf related content/enhancements. When I did play through it, I made a very limited load order just to play through on an existing character and then reverted back and started again.

Think just randomly.

Think just randomly.

Same here, if lowering shadow details won't work, also try tweak audio to 44000hz and 16 bit in audio playback...

Have you even considered the possibility that one of your mods may be conflicting with another?

Like you said, in recent times we've had 2 patches relating to Dawnguard, as well as the release of Dawnguard itself. So the game has changed.

Curious if lowering the audio playback is noticeable in Skyrim? Probably not, but lowering it to hopefully fix something must mean some kind of degradation?

This is why i'm nervous about picking up Dawnguard. I've heard about numerous problems it has caused.
