Cosmetic clothing and why

If there is one thing I want to see in this game it is cosmetic clothing...or appearance editors at the very least. Why? Because sometimes I find to create characters, level up their abilities, but to make sure they survive that encounter with a dragon have to drop my thieves guild armor for dragonbone or at least search for a mod.

Translated to mmo, I find that many times I like the look of the lower level stuff far better then the "epic coolness" of the endgame gear. Take Rift for example. I played a mage and a rogue. The mage endgame gear had pieces that looked like demented cotton candy whirled around into a robe like shape. The rogues were little better. But with the appearance tab I could take older gear and slot it to override my horrendous apprentice to look more like a decently dressed adventuring mage. My Rogue got similar treatment and went from a bland generic assassin to wearing a red overcoat with blue jeans. Again more of how I think an actual person would dress.

TSW went a step further and just made your outfit customizable with no bearing on your stats. Not sure is ESO could get away with that, but having appearance tabs we can use for RP to quickly switch appearances without having to move gear would be great in my opinion. Even if you don't RP it would go a long way to get further customization of your characters.

I'm always down for more customizations for my characters. It's one of those features that a lot of people love, but many games tend to slack on. Standing out/looking different is definitely something a lot of people appreciate, especially when it comes to online games. I don't like playing a game where me and the 10 people standing next to me all look the same, minus a different hairstyle.

Agreed. I do however like to look at a potential PvP target and judge his equipment. Just so I know if i should run towards or away from him. Vote against an appearance tab. Rather put more graphical variety into gear. And accept that you look like a moron sometimes. You may appear as a walking cotton candy whirl but your spells will hurt like hell, that should be enough :)

True, and that could be a detriment (personally with things like swtor I just looked at the resource bar) but keep in mind that it seems the developer while using a class system would be potentially be using the older Elder Scroll pre-made classes. This means like say a sorcerer which was to use heavy armor but still be a standard ranged caster. Or the scout which would use light armor but be a melee combatant. Then you have them saying potentially anyone can use any weapon and things go even more crazy.

Now one method is to restrict the armor to what you can normally use for your class in appearance like Rift did. Rogues could only use light armor in their appearance tab for example. Warriors could only use heavy, mages with cloth, ect. I personally like this the best for two reasons. One, you still get a fair amount of customization even if you are restricted a little on what you can wear. The other reason is it would give low end crafting more longevity since maybe the piece you really want for your outfit only comes from lower level crafting. Add in a dye system and you get even more player market. It won't eliminate the problem entirely, but if there are only x number of plate wearing classes then you can more easily pick up and prepare for that fight.
