CPU Drops to Zero

Post » Mon Aug 27, 2012 3:05 pm

Hello All.

I'm having a strange issue. This issue seems to happen whether using mods, GPU overclocking, CPU overclocking, Ultra settings, or absolutely no overclocking, or mods, and even on the lowest settings.

On an average of once per minute I experience a complete freeze of the game that lasts around 3 or 4 seconds. The weirdest aspect to me is that when I open up MSI with no overclocking and just to view the log, is that where I thought my CPU would be maxing out at 100%, it's actually dropping to ZERO during these lags.

I've tried many iterations of settings and none have any effect.

It seems as though this problem developed over time, and not something that happened when I first started playing.

I've completely wiped and uninstalled the game and run it with no mods and it seems to have the same problem.

Surely it's something I'm overlooking.

Thanks.

Specs:

2 GTX 580m's running in SLI
i7 Extreme 990x - 6 cores
24 gigs of DDR3 RAM

I assume you have already tried disabling SLI. Don't know much about your CPU.......ummmmm when you uninstall did you delete the Mygames/Skyrim Folder in Documents?

Perhaps the problem lies within the SLI configuration?

Try running with all of your startup apps turned off. Click Start, type msconfig and hit enter. Go to the Startup tab, click Disable All and Apply. Reboot and try the game. If it cures your problem, bring your apps back in a few at a time to try and pin down the cause. If not, simply re-enable all of them.

Also a good idea ^ there is an program http://support.microsoft.com/mats/slow_windows_performance/en-usyou you can run and it does virtually that for you

Thanks so much for responding so quickly to me friends. I was starting to troubleshoot using your suggestions and randomly installed Skryim Redone, which forces you to start a new game... Guess who doesn't freeze anymore? ;) Now that just makes me wonder if every aged character has choppy saves... I will look elsewhere to deal with this issue. Thank you all.

Glad you got it solved :D I read elsewhere someone was having similar issues to that mod...so many factors when it comes to Skyrim.
