The Dovahkin's Loyalty (Spoiler Alert)

This post might have spoilers. Read at your own risk.

A question's been bugging me ever since the end of Oblivion:

Why is the player so loyal to the establishment? Even in Skyrim, where you can join the rebellion and drive out the Imperials, the player still ends up loyal to the new High King.

In Oblivion, it was slightly understandable - you couldn't activate the Amulet of Kings (not being of dragon blood), and you really don't get all that much power in Oblivion (other than as guild master). Sure, you're cheered as a champion, but that's it.

In Skyrim, however, you are the Dovahkin. This is someone the Nords are already speaking reverently of when you first find out, and then, as you grow in strength, you become not only more powerful as a character, but politically as well. Not only can you lead the guilds, you can become Thane in all nine holds. Beyond that, even ignoring the strength of a Vampire Lord who can blot out the sun, you are able to summon dragons to aid you in battle?

So, what's preventing the Dovahkin from setting him/herself up as the new Emperor?

If you're playing an Imperial, you've got a better claim then Titus Mede (as the dragon blood is necessary to keep Mehrunes Dagon from destroying the world). Whether you kill him in the Dark Brotherhood or not, what's preventing you from telling Tullius that the only way you'll end the rebellion is if he'll support your claim to the throne. Convince the rest of the Imperials that you'll restore the Empire to it's former glory by crusing the Aldmeri Dominion, and you've got a good chance.

Nords/Bretons, same thing, really, only it'll be leading the Nords to their former glory crushing the Aldmers, and "revitalizing" the empire.

Altmer/Bosmer? I'm in charge. Got a problem? Talk to the dragon I can summon at will.

As for the "weaker" (politically, that is) races (Orcs, Kajhit, Argonians, Redguard) - it shouldn't take much to be able to convince them that it's their turn to be in charge.

And yet, this is never explored ingame, or even suggested. I can summon dragons, I can control dragon shouts (Unrelenting Force alone is good to take out a few ranks of soldiers), why shouldn't I be emperor? Who can really stop me?

Has anyone else ever thought like this?

I am not sure that Bethesda will ever make a Hero from the game Emperor, 'cause then they will get a name, or have a race, gender, and that is all how you decide to be. Look for instance Hero of Kvathc, Champion of Cyrodiil, never mentioned in Skyrim,
Heroes from past games always fade in history, rarely mentioned in next games.

Well pertaining to the Imperial bit, I'm pretty sure Martin permanently stopped Mehrunes Dagon from being able to cross over into Tamriel, so being an Imperial and claiming you have dragons blood wouldn't make a difference.

Excluding that, I have thought like this. It would be great to use all of the power you have to rule maybe a province, or even become an Emperor. Let's face it, most of the people in Skyrim would rather have a Dragonborn warrior as a leader than an old man (Titus Mede II).

I can see potential problems though. If you weren't a Nord, the Nords wouldn't be happy, this could just refresh the whole problem. Also, lots of the TG members are actually known for being in the Guild. I don't think people would be happy that their Emperor also leads the Thieves Guild..

And this. To do that, they would have to make you a King/Queen, with a name, and they would have to create a certain history for that character.
