Skyrim 2050: What would you want if Skyrim were made in the

Post » Thu Aug 30, 2012 10:19 am

So the premise for this is simple enough: if you could imagine a computer 40 years from now, what would you want in Skyrim: The extra HD remake?

For me, it would be two things mainly.

First, I would love to have Skyrim roughly the size of Great Britian (ish) where it takes your character a massive amount of time to walk across (ie, a few in game weeks, and several hours of real time to go from one side to the other) Now, I know that would turn a lot of people off, but for me I would adore that. Just to get lost in a true world.

Secondly, I'd like totally destructible buildings, dungeons, etc. I think it would be awesome to go into Whiterun and Fus Ro Dah Belethor's shop and watch all the wood splinter and buckle as the building basically gets hit by the force of a hurricane.

What about you? What features would you like to see in Skyrim 2050?

Oh man. Well, I would want individual AI that adapts and learns for each NPC. Of course, it's intelligence would vary depending on what it is, but if a bandit begs for mercy and you let him go, he might come back sometime later with vastly improved weapons, armor, and skills. Guards that survive a dragon attack will be that much more intelligent and skilled next time it happens. Or say you have a follower with you over a long period of time, eventually they start adopting your tactics.

I could honestly type all day about what I would want, so I'll stop myself at super awesome AI.

Holodeck support, for starters, with a real-time editor accessible via my iBorg implant.

I'd like to add intelligent response from NPC's, that they would talk to you differently according to your equipment, past deeds, genreal appearance, playstyle. That they could change their disposition in a much more varied way, that if you did something minor - like helping someone delivering something - one of their friends might have heard about it and would comment. That the NPC's recognized each other - for instance, if you in today's Skyrim take Annekke to visit Sylgja, none of them show the slightest reaction, despite being mother and daughter, which is just dumb. That NPC's reacted on your follower - now it's like "you killed all those bandits by yourself?" even if you have a minor army in tow, and also reactions to your followers race (Guard: "Isn't that Khajit from one of the caravans? Can't let him into the city!" PC: Persuade, intimate, bribe or let go). And, of course, backstories and some more dialogue for at least all NPC's you have a little more interaction with - potential followers and spouses, faction members and so on.

Seasonal foliage. Trees not only being cut down for lumber mills, but also growing back. More people, buildings and wildlife. Complex schedules for NPC's. Children growing if your game last for in-game years. Events actually happening without you participating, not this status quo as long as you're not around. For instance, if you arrive in Morthal early in the game, it makes sense that they mention that there are news of the rebellion. But if months or even years have passed, it makes no sense at all.

Well first I wouldn't want it to be just Skyrim, I'd get sick of all the tundra, so probably add High Rock and Hammerfell into the mix for diversity, then I would make the towns like karthwasten bigger than 3 houses and a mine, any town should be the size of Whiterun and any settlement should be the size of Riverwood. If I had the option I'd have two or 3 cities the size of those in Assassin's Creed, so a yet to be devastated Winterhold or Daggerfall would be about the size of Florence, while port capitals like Morthal or Dawnstar would be the size of Forli. Of course this would take a lot of effort and manpower and in spite of technology advances it would still take many years of work to get it in shops.

Well, that option where I could make my own clothing with my own design would be nice.
If there is somebody who knows what style fits my character the best, it would be me! :D
Seasonal change would be nice to. (Winter, Summer, etc)

But maybe those things would not be a very big deal for a computer like that.
Perhaps more realistic reactions to damage? When you kill somebody by burning them to death, it would be very realistic if it left burnt spots in the corpse. Or a melted corpse. :D
You know what I mean? Right?

Realistic damage would be good. And damage on armor as well. Sword rips up your cuirass, take it to the blacksmith and fix it. Oh, and bodies actually decaying. Going back somewhere after a few weeks wouldn't be - so nice.

Hand and blow jobs.

Anything I'd expect in 2050 is capable now with good programming - it's just too difficult and time-consuming. Everything except for the holodeck are basically possible now with more extensive programming. As for the holodeck: pass. Game graphics are about as far as I'd want them to be: I don't want to be controlling a 100% realistic-looking human - I want some cartoonish, animated look to remain in computer/console games.

The only thing I don't like about Aurora's time/season progression is all of it - it's stupid. Seriously though, the only thing I wouldn't like about it would be like 'timed' quests, but this is easily fixed by breaking the game down by 'chapters' - Fable kinda' does that.

I'd like to see good writing, which is apparently impossible with this technology we have now...

I'd like to see this game not be The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and be The Elder Scrolls V: Tamriel. Keep Skyrim the same size, but add in every province at a size appropriately scaled (Cyrodiil and Morrowind roughly twice the size, for example).

Having http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFqNh-hxme8, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOvfn1p92_8, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBR4cT-0sKY.(and real flow liquids)
aaaand soft body based physics, because in real life there are no rigid bodies.
More importantly, take more time for a decent storyline, all real scale provinces(12M mi2) and more realistic long term NPC AI as described in the previous posts (however, another problem would be the number of lines to record for NPCs).

But after that, modding will be a pain in the foundation.

i'd want the whole of tamriel without any loading screens, if that would even be possible by then. or if it was just skyrim, i'd want it to be massive, like the size of a country in rl. full up with lifelike npc's and building etc. and have the AI smart enough to be able to ask it anything and it to respond. would so fun to spend hours insulting npc's to see how they respond

Be careful there - Skynet won't be far behind. :P

Also, excluding the AI, almost everything you described is possible today, but it would cost 400 000$ to play the game for 12 seconds.
