Naming My Characters And Roleplaying

Post » Thu Aug 30, 2012 5:46 am

So, I'm sick of starting my characters over and over again because I wasn't sure about the name. I'm going to start naming my characters after lore characters I think, but I'm not sure if this is in keeping with the spirit of roleplaying. If I name my Nord Dragonborn Ysmir, and my Redguard Nightingale Sai, and my Orc Dawnguard Trinac, am I doing myself or the game a disservice?

Much like picking a race that you like...

Pick a name that you like.

If it helps you to feel more official if someone else tells you what you should be thinking there are websites that will generate names for you.

In "Oblivion" I had a red haired Dunmer Mage named Therena after a distant relative in House Telvanni.

But then I had a Nord called Azrael because that's my gaming name.

In a single player game it doesn't really matter what you call your character as long as you're happy with it.

Well what do you guys think of these names:

Gollnir for my Nord.
Saiang for my Raga.
Balzog for my Orc.

?

Also do you think you could help me come up with a good reason an Orc devoted to Malacath would become a Werewolf?

The name is important to me and once I decide on a name I really like, I have a better time with the character. It gives them more character, if that makes sense. I take my time when I'm thinking of a new build and look around for anything that could be used for the race and then sometimes I'll alter the name by a single letter. Some examples below and good luck with naming your Dovahkiin. :)

Evaliir Srinna and her sister Kiir Srinna (names from an online Elven Dictionary) Bretons
Cinna Veluthil, Breton
Ka'shira Khajiit (haha, not real creative but I liked her too)
Ysabel Maro, (uesp sample names) Imperial, first one to complete MQ
Arianne Roux, (baby names again) Breton pacifist WIP
Olina Westgard, (Norwegian baby names) Nord
Boo Rindoh, (anagram of Robin Hood) Bosmer, first time ever doing TG

Try playing as different gods or goddesses and specialize in what they would. My first playthrough of Skyrim was as Odin and he specialized in One Handed, Block, Speech and Heavy Armour.

I think I like my names now. The only problem is making up a logical reason an Orc would want to become a werewolf.

He heard it makes you immune to disease, perhaps that could be of interest to an Orc.
