About a week ago, I started the Civil War questline for the Stormcloaks. The first quest was to take control of Whiterun. Easy enough, right? I've done this quest before absolutely problem free. But not this time. After clearing the front of guards, I attempted to enter Whiterun, which resulted in a prompt crash to desktop. I reloaded, figuring it was a glitch which could be remedied by restarting. Same result. After some tinkering, I was able to actually enter the city. I fought my way to Dragonsreach, entered in an attempt to make Balgruuf surrender and during the phase where he's defeated and you talk to him, it crashed again. It did this probably 15 times, during the exact same phase in the quest. In fact, sometimes it would crash whenever I even attempted to enter Dragonsreach. After a lot of frustration, I manually entered a command in the console to complete the quest, the Battle for Whiterun. I returned to Ulfric and figured the crashes were a thing of the past. I was wrong. I can't even enter Dragonsreach during the hours of the new Jarl being present without it crashing. Also, waiting results in a crash. Crafting results in a crash, sometimes. Sleeping in my own bed results in a crash. Oddly enough, I can enter Dragonsreach just fine whenever the new Jarl isn't present, due to sleeping or what not.
What's the deal? I tried literally everything, including a reinstall, disabling every mod and advancing the quest to finish through the console. I'm getting really fed up because Whiterun has basically become some sort of landmark in crashing to desktop. The city is virtually unaccessable. Wiped off the map of Skyrim as a plausible place to do whatever. I've read people have had issues with that quest in particular, but nothing about crashes continuing beyond it. Does anyone know how to resolve this? I'd like to be able to access the city again.
Thanks.
