Some Thoughts on DLCExpansions And The Bethesda Mindset

Post » Sun Sep 02, 2012 11:15 pm

Laydeez and Gents,
As I've been able to gather from viewing this forum over the last several weeks, there are some folks who are unsatisfied with the current set of DLC/expansion releases.
For my part, I absolutely LOVED Dawnguard (PC) but was somewhat disappointed with what was announced concerning Hearthfire (I don't think it's bad, but forum speculation had led me to expect so much more.)

However:
A couple of days ago, I read a little article on the web that consisted of a brief interview of the Bethesda Hearthfire developers. They described their inspiration and motivation for making Hearthfire.

That's when it hit me, like a bucket of ice water in the face.

Based on that interview, it became glaringly obvious that the Bethesda development team has a CORNUCOPIA of ideas that they want to implement in Skyrim. In fact, it looks to me like they clearly recognize Skyrim for what it is: a huuuuuuuuuuge platform for developing a tremendous number of new DLC and expansions.

I found this epiphany to be extremely reassuring, and suspect that over the next 12 months we're going to see tons of new DLC content added, and some really exciting quests - perhaps even a large expansion of at least Shivering Isles size and quality.

So, fellow adventurers: take heart. I'm certain at this point that the boiz and gurlz at Beth have lots of neat stuff in store for us.

I don't know why people are so upset that Heathfire is a smaller DLC, they can work on this and a big expansion at the same time and this is just something they're making to tie us over until this big expansion is released.

I think they made it to burn out the contract with microsoft while the big DLC's come in.

Anyway, I heard they planned on having 5 DLC's. 4 small, 1 big. Dawnguard and hearthfire are small, and who knows? They only "planned" 5 DLC's, maybe even more will come later.

Of course I believe they will.

Actually what makes me excited about Heartfire, cause I BELIEVE that Beth will give us more and more tremendous contents. It don't have to be "Huge", but memorable.

Well, that's not exactly Bethesda's fault. Shouldn't believe speculation to the point of actually expecting it to be true.

Could you link to the article? I'm very interested in reading it.
But yeah, there's no doubt that Bethesda have some fantastic ideas for Skyrim. Just look at Gamejam!

We can only hope Skyrim's "Shivering Isles" is as good as Oblivion's. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us.

Agreed OP. A lot of people seem to forget devs are gamers too. I will reserve my final judgement until all DLCs are out and beth wash their hands of skyrim. I still have high hopes :)
