Get rid of that friggin' thing!

I've read conflicting answers to the following question and I'm hoping someone on here can give me a definitive answer.

On the Xbox 360 is there any way to permanently remove the pickaxe from Sylgja if she is your wife? And can you change her clothes somehow?

Unfortunately, no. Maybe they'll add the ability to change your spouse's default equipment/clothing/armor for situations like these in some DLC, but who knows.

...Is it not pickpocketable?

I swear, this board. They're so desperately afraid of powergaming, yet they're in a game that is extremely shallow and pretty much made for powergaming, then on top of it they label some skills (pickpocket and lockpicking especially) "useless" in spite of in fact being useful (at least in pickpocket's case). A nice side effect being that I imagine, since it lets you pickpocket equipped weapons, it would let you take your wife's pickaxe
Spoiler
if that's what you kids are calling it these days.
