Is this build of mine feasible?

Post » Wed Sep 05, 2012 3:31 pm

Here is a build I am considering:

* Alchemy (For potions and poisons. Some to keep and some to sell.)
* Archery (Steel or lower bows and arrows only.)
* Block (Steel or lower only.)
* Light Armor (Leather or fur Only.)
* Lockpicking
* One-Handed (Knives or Daggers only. Steel or lower. No Swords, Maces, or Axes.)
* Smithing (For earning gold and to craft better knives and daggers. Up to Steel only.)
* Sneak (he will rely on stealth for kills.)

You read that correctly. Because my character isn't much of a warrior type, i'm limiting him to steel weapons and leather armor. He's also going to be a werewolf. The full post is here. It is #11

I know going all steel and leather will be very difficult. I'm trying to make a character who is kinda "rustic". Like a typical villager. But I still need to be able to survive so I threw in Block and Leather Armor.

If I could survive with the build as is, but with (un-Enchanted) Cloth, No Block, and only wielding a pick axe or hatchet, I would.

I have done similar but I go dual wield instead. It was viable but you may find the game more quite difficult if play on master.

I think for adept or below it should be easy

How would I attack dual wielding? When I used a sword and shield, I alternate between the Left trigger and Right Trigger. I attack with one, then block with the other. How would one attack with two daggers? When it's Left, Right, Left, Right? That would mean only attacking with one at time.

Also, do daggers benefit from the Armsman perk? I'm wondering because they're one handed, but further up the One-Handed tree there are perks for Swords, Axes, and Maces, but not Daggers.

You cannot block with dual wielding. Whatever is in your left hand (I think) you will swing at that weapons speed.
Left trigger moves your left hand, right is your right hand, pressing down on both does a scissor chop.

Apparently daggers don't fall under the one handed tree so I don't think Armsman works for daggers.

My friend, I'm playing on master with a woodcutter's axe and a roughspun tunic, everything is "feasible".

Armsman is the only one-handed perk that works for daggers.

What I mean is that I have one character on similar build as you but that character go dual wield instead of shield block

Thank you all for your input  I really appreciate it. I still plan on using a dagger for Sneak attacks though. I may use a mace with a shield, and reserve the dagger for sneak attacks.

On a previous playthrough I tore through Riverwood. Taking out Faendel, Sven, Camilla, and the male inkeeper (could not kill the lady inkeeper). I noticed either Hod or Gerdur used a shield. One or both of them was definitley NOT using a dagger. It was either a Mace or an Axe. Looked like Iron or Steel.

So I plan on keeping a Steel dagger around. With 5/5 in Armsman + Assassin's Blade, having a dagger will be very useful.

Here's what it will be: Steel Dagger for sneak attacks. Steel mace and Steel shield for combat. Archery (Wooden/Hunting bow) with Steel or lower arrows for range.

If those villagers can use weapons other than daggers, than it should be fine for my "Villager" to use swords, axes, or maces. Still only Steel or lower though. My character using anything higher would put him on the level of a Guard or higher.

PS: I took out Hod and Gerdur with this other character of mine. Using: Flame (Novice fire spell), an axe, and copious amounts of running away. :ahhh: I couldn't quite seem to take out Alvor though. It was quite nerve-wracking when he was swinging at me with his Iron/Steel two-handed hammer at me.

I don't see why you would pair a combat skill, block AND armor with SNEAK? ... In the long run it's going to be extremely redundant and limiting. The only build you would need sneak is an archery build or a mostly (or pure) mage.

Personally I would concentrate on alchemy and archery and just use your werewolf ability for close combat.
