Question on the current state of the game...

I stopped playing Skyrim many months ago and was thinking of getting back into it again as a mage. My issue is back when I used to play and forums post a major point of contention was that destruction didn't scale properly and the only way to truly be a successful damage dealer with the Destruction school was to get 100% mana cost reduction and spam fireballs until every piece your enemy and the environment were scattered around the room. My question: Is this still the case in Skyrim? Has anything been done? I would simply log on, play, and find out for myself but the leveling system prevents ANY free form play and I would hate to dump 40hours into a character only to find out it blows after dumping 13 levels of points into a tree.

I also know there were glitches with conjured Battleaxe were if you conjured it in 3rd person it really messed you up.

I'm on Xbox sadly (waiting ever patiently until Bethesda can put steam on XBL, something they've been talking about for years) and I didn't go read the slew of patch notes for a reason because I want to hear personal play experiences and opinions. I'd love to keep playing and I think a mage is a fun new play style that I could enjoy that's different from anything I've done in the ES series, because if i have to sit through anymore *swing, swing, swing, menu scroll, ability, swing, potion, swing, shout, swing, swing, swing, Swing, SWing, SWIng, SWINg, SWING, SWING SWING* combat I'll snap my disk in half.

Thanks for reading!
