Gamestar magazine's strange way of saying "thank you&#34

An unknown news reporter of the german pc-gaming magazine Gamestar showed his rather strange sense of humor when entiteling a news article with the words:

"An der Kasse wird's vermutlich ein Flop, wir freuen uns trotzdem über jedes Video"

which translates into:

"It'll most likely become a sales fiasko, but we appreciate every new video"

I find that rather odd, if not despiteful. Who is this guy to make a judgement like this?

Furthermore, the news article has not been changed for two days despite numerous complaints of users towards other online editors, who are aware of the issue, as if nobody feels responsible for the content of their website.

I guess Arcane studios granted the Gamestar magazine the same kind of insight as every other magazine, like free material and inside informations about their upcoming game, and should not accept beeing badmouthed like this!

What do you think?

Perhaps Dishonored has gone under the radar in Germany?

But yeah, kind of a dike move.

Definitely not and especially the Gamestar magazine is reporting about the game what seems like 24/7. ^^ Which makes this kind of headline even stranger...

Let him say what he wants to say. Is the full article out? I would really like to hear his reasoning and see how exactly Dishonored will flop in sales. To say it will be bad is one thing, but fail in sales? Yeah, sorry, not gonna happen.

That's another problem. There is no article. The news-headline directly links to the latest developer video. It was just this one, short, unfriendly headline with no explanation whatsoever. If I didn't knew better I'd say its like a troll-posting...

I′m from germany and visit the website. This is no real article (target link goes at -> https://www.gamestar.de/videos/action,9/dishonored-die-maske-des-zorns,67454.html). It only shows the new developer diary part one. I couldn′t understand why GameStar, one of the biggest magazines in germany, have so low expectations, Dishonored is very known in germany. Maybe they think it won′t be good, because Arx and Dark Messiah was both a "sales fiasko" - but in my opinion great games!!!

If he judges them based off the previous games' sales then I am just going to add the publishing deals for those were pretty darn bad. Bethesda rented a villa just so they can recreate the Lady Boyle mission from the game, the have made countless videos showing off things that gamers care about. Not to mention the countless interviews and the Q&A Harvey and Raphael did over at twitter and in general developers being so open to share with the consumer audience. I am sorry but sales is where Dishonored definitely won't flop.

There's quite a lot of hype and marketing around this game, and I've yet to hear any negative impressions. I don't see why it would flop. I definitely don't think looking at Dark Messiah or Arx Fatalis is meaningful in any way. Different publisher, different engine, different kind of game, and it's been 6 years since Dark Messiah.

From what I remember Dark Messiah had some technical issues on launch and many people seemed to be under the impression that it was an Oblivion-like open world RPG, which it wasn't.

though I tend to agree with this, one thing that does bother me a little bit is just how quiet it is here at the games official message board. with most highly anticipated games the boards are a lot more active so close to release. with most highly anticipated games you see a flood of new members so close to release, and a ton of activity on the message boards. seems odd that it isn't happening here.

It really isn't odd because it's not as big as Borderlands 2 or AC 3 and we are really active when there are news to comment on. At the moment we are waiting for the next scoop and really that's not an indicator that anything is wrong. We'll get a massive flood of new members when the game comes out anyway.

Stealth games are a bit of a niche genre but the fact that the straight on aggressive approach should be totally viable means the game should be accessible to most gamers.

Maybe Germans just shouldn't talk about video games since they aren't even allowed to play most of them.

I have never taken Germany seriously when it comes to gaming. Not to offend anyone but most of their gaming journalists even don't know what they are talking about most of the time. That said unless I see a reasonable explanation as to why Dishonored's sales will flop then I can't really take this seriously and neither should anyone else. Besides all the knowledge I've gathered over the past few months regarding the game is proving that things won't be as this small statement suggests. This does not change my opinion in any way, shape or form.

Well, two things:

1.) Inside Europe Germany is one of the biggest (PC-)gaming markets as far as I know. And

2.) The articles headline has been changed. So it seems that those responsible for the news or the website corrected this obvious mistake. ;)

I don't expect Dishonoured to break sales records, but I think it'll do quite well when it does come out.

Especially if ZP gives it a positive review.

That really doesn't matter to me nor to the evolution of gaming. Many people nowadays buy games but the games bought are the most generic ones. Unless I see Spec Ops: The Line top the charts I will not be impressed and that will never happen because the publisher for that game doesn't even know how to sell it. Thank goodness for people like TotalBiscuit, Extra Credits and Errant Signal to actually show what is great about games like that and why we should support their making.

2.) The articles headline has been changed. So it seems that those responsible for the news or the website corrected this obvious mistake.

This is another thing I hate, if a person has an opinion why not let them voice it? The person who wrote that statement could have at least written an article suggesting why that would be the case. Now it feels like someone from Bethesda or the magazine itself warned them not to do that anymore because it goes against their interests. I want to see negative opinions and their justifications for it, sadly the ones that have come out are only nitpicks or obviously subjective opinions and lack of knowledge on how game design works.

I don't expect Dishonoured to break sales records, but I think it'll do quite well when it does come out.

Especially if ZP gives it a positive review.

It will definitely do good even though it's not the talk of the year. Hardly anyone knew about Mark of the Ninja and it turned out to be the closest thing to a 2D Thief that anyone could make. (That means BUY MARK OF THE NINJA NOW!)

I tend to agree with Yahtzee's opinions because he actually likes great games. Although his show really isn't a review, more of a nitpick-a-thon and witty humor for the most part. His videos on Silent Hill 2 and Spec Ops: The Line are both great and show his passion for video games.
