[REQ] Personal NPC Dialogues

Post » Mon Sep 10, 2012 1:52 pm

Hello all,
I had an idea, Im wondering if someone could make a mod that would update an NPC's Dialogue that you come in contact with,
mostly shop owners, guards maybe, and folks that you may talk to or at least go into dialogue with often and not based on a story or quest.

IDK about you guys but when I go to a smith to buy or sell something and i get the same response and or dialogue that is kinda
of based on current events it gets real stale, after the first initial dialogue the NPC should repeat the same thing over and over each
time you go to them and at that point its almost better if they didn't say anything. You end up saying to yourself in response to the npc "ya I know already"

So heres the idea,
My idea came from playing with my Stealth Assassin character who is in the DB (Dark Brotherhood for the new folks),
What I really enjoyed most when starting out in the DB was the type of response or feedback if you will, like comments from Astrid
(leader of the DB when you start) and the Redguard ( I forgot his name, dammit) they give you quests and complete them.

Well if you haven't done the DB quests then let me narrow it down, basically when I go to the following types of NPC:
  • Shopkeepers - Inns, blacksmith, stands (selling fruits & vegetables, and potions), ect,.
  • Guards
  • Companions/Followers (possibly idk)
  • Roaming NPC -travelers, ect,.
The concept is basically when i go to a shopkeeper, or s smith, they would identify me in a way that would give me the feeling
or idea that they are alive and or know me.

How this would be done and these are just ideas cant say they would or could work, after a first encounter or transaction or discussion with an NPC, that npc would
recognize you by your character name, and or make comments based on what they know about you like your achievements, your power, your character type, what your carrying, possibly what you look like, who your aligned with like as in faction.

How would an NPC know about you?
There could be a dialogue that is added to the already lines of an NPC where if you go into dialogue with them that the game possibly
a script would record or note your responses and then in return have an array or list of responses to your character.

so say for example,
i go to a smith in Whiterun, and go into dialogue with the npc there, and after I leave, it will be like the npc remembered me from the first time I talked with them when I return and go into dialogue with them again, its kinda of like fame like Oblivion had when you haggled them except this would be more dynamic in the sense that certain lines would give you a response based on your current status, it doesn't have to be big, just something where theres a recognition of you seeing them, and them seeing you again, but not psychic crap like somehow they know you stole something, like the guards somehow know you took something when you were no where in site.

More of a chat type response, like hi how you been, great to see you again, welcome back.

Whats your name?
lets say they ask what your name is, the game could gather your name like when you get a courier that comes up to you out
of nowhere and gives you a note saying your name and then talks about a word wall somewhere.

From there, there could be all sorts of random, and or dynamic lines that feed the npc based on various factors, this all would be
really when they see you return whether your buying something, or selling, getting more info, ect,.

Making it more alive is making the npc somehow give you recognition, not just repeating the same line they had
when you initially met them, or went into dialogue with them.
