How Sandboxy is this game?

Post » Tue Sep 11, 2012 7:00 am

I am really excited about this game. I do hope it's as dark and chaotic as the trailer makes it out to be. It almost feels like whereas in Skyrim the more noble path was a more 'destined' path for your character the total opposite seems to be for Dishonored and I love it :D I do have to ask, though. The reason why I fell in love with Bethesda-- and excuse my ignorance when it comes to publishers/devs etc-- was because of Fallout 3 and Skyrim simply for the fact that I just walked around and enjoyed the mood/setting and immersed myself in the vast world. Is there a 'world' to Dishonored or is there a designed path with sandboxy mission objectives or an open area where you are not quite sure what you are about to run into? Either way, I do appreciate the beauty and thought and art that goes into these games.

Alrighty I'll try and answer your questions. 1. its not a bethesda made game its made by arkane published by bethesda. 2. there is a game world and lots of lore but the plot takes place in one city. 3. Its not open world its very big levels that are non linear and there is no one set way to play, think hitman.

Oh and if you take the time and take in the world no doubt you'll be immmersed

Somewhat of a related question I've been meaning to ask is will all the buildings be open for exploration? I hate how most buildings in open world settings function as props instead of being fully exploreable.

Strife will probably know better than me but I don't think every building is explorable. My theory is that there are a lot of "prop" buildings and the ones that allow access are the ones that hold secrets. Whether the secrets be runes, bone charms, Outsider shrines, access to shortcuts etc. Its just a flat out guess though.

Oh and my reasoning for thinking that not every building is explorable is when I went back and watched the gameplay trailer it looks like there were a lot of buidings that you couldnt enter.

Game is being made by Arkane and published by Bethesda.

The more people you kill the more Chaos you introduce into the world and the game becomes much more darker and you get the darker endings.

The progression of missions is linear but each mission is a sandbox, kinda like Thief, Deus Ex and the Hitman series. Depending on the level you can go into some buildings due to them being different size. Some are smaller and more directed but you will still be able to go off path and explore.

The game takes place in one city even though the developers created an entire world map for the game. The world is fleshed out by a lot of ways, collectables and dialogue mostly. http://media1.gameinformer.com/images/hubs/dishonored/map.jpg

As everyone has stated, big open world mission in a linear progression path.

But with that said, i wouldn't be surprised if Antonov's world will be absolutely breathtaking at times.

And i'm sure many will enjoy the "world" that has ben created, even though you aren't able to explore all of it.

Sounds about right. Even if you can't enter every building, I hope there are at least a decent amount of them that are explorable outside of the ones the target inhabits for the sake of finding runes, wbc etc. like you said.
