Playing with HUD

Post » Tue Sep 11, 2012 11:10 pm

***EDIT: TITLE WAS MEANT TO BE "PLAYING WITHOUT HUD". APOLOGIES, PLEASE FIX IF POSSIBLE***

I decided to make my HUD invisible to see how it wouldf affect gameplay . And I must say, WOW.

I may be exaggerating slightly, but it's almost as though I'm playing an entirely new game. For once I'm actually exploring, instead of just chucking a marker on my map and following the road to my destination; I do explore, but I still find myself following map markers, even if I'm not aware of it.

It makes fights more interesting too, because you can't see your enemy's health or your own. The only downside for me is that there are no hovering markers for doors, chests etc. and no crosshair, which makes archery a bit difficult. But I'm really getting into it and if you haven't tried this yet and are a bit bored, I would reccomend it for sure.

Yeah playing without the HUD and the compass adds alot to the gameplay and is great for the immersion. Alot of people on here actually do this from what I know. Removing the HUD is a perfect option for roleplayers as well as people who complain that Bethesda "dumbed down" or aimed Skyrim towards more casual gamers.

I always do a wild amount of exploring even with the HUD but I do disable quite a bit. I don't always play without it, but I've played more with it off than on.

I play without the compass, but I don't think I could manage without my status bars.

A couple of videos I made of archery without the crosshairs - it's all about making slight adjustments if you miss

My last three characters have played without the HUD. It's a lot more satisfying and you can enjoy the world a lot more without the distractions.
