Remembering September 11th, 2001

Post » Wed Sep 12, 2012 5:16 am

I had just moved into a new high-rise condo in Chicago. My girlfriend called me from work and told me to turn on the TV. I saw from the second plane on live. Some friends of mine that worked downtown ended up having the buildings they worked in evacuated, so they came over and watched the news coverage. The whole thing was pretty surreal. We had no idea what was going to happen next.

Exactly. Especially after the reports of one plane hitting the Pentagon and another getting downed in a Pennsylvania field . No one knew if New York was the only target or how many planes were actually highjacked.

I have split a lot of posts out. This topic is remembering the tragedy, not for dragging politics into it.

Wait a [censored] minute. My initial post, which was hardly political and included my sympathy for 9/11's victims, got deleted because it wasn't nothing but condolences? Go ahead and delete this post, too, but know this: If you're gonna be that strict with this thread, then you're better off locking it after post #1.

Yeah, why did my last post just get deleted...

But more on topic, is there anyone here who wasn't old enough to remember the incident? I was old enough to recall a few news flashes and where i was and what I was doing at the time, but too young to remember a lot of it and the meaning behind what was happening.

Another thing I remember about 9/11 is when my boss at work called everybody to gather for one minute of silence. We were all gathered in a circle with our head down and eyes close. I believe we did that because the government asked everybody to have a national one minute of silence. That was a neat thing to do.

Well I'd rather it didn't get locked.

I've been wondering how families of the victims feel after knowing that Bin Laden. mastermind behind the tragedy, was killed. I wonder if it gave them any feeling of justice or closure at all.

I remember that too. It was pretty cool seeing the footage from cameras all over the country that were filming when people were watching the president's speech and they all bowed their head in silence. That was a very cool moment. The mass unity was the only good thing that came out of all this.

Just rewatching some of the footage from that day (as part of documentaries and what-not) really brings it all back again. It started out as such a bright blue day and turned into utter hell.

I remember the events like it occured yesterday. I was a freshman in High School and I remember around 9:30am seeing the 1st footage of the towers with the smoking bellowing out of them. I was young and didn't take the events as seriously as I should, heck I think 3 years later I complained about my high school honoring 9/11 with a moment of silence.

It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I realized the absolute importance of what happened on that day and why we should never forget 9/11.

Over all, I'm indifferent to the attacks on 9/11, but I feel bad for all those lives lost.

I'm not related to anyone who was involved in the tragedy but I can imagine it played a big part of adding to the justice that was sitting at about 40 times per victim at the time. But even with his death I don't really think there will be any feelings of closure to this anytime soon.

I just hope the world will fully recover from this some day and that the cycle of war and hatred will stop at some point.

There's an interesting story about Seth Macfarlane, the creator of the shows Family Guy and American Dad. He was actually scheduled to be on one of the planes that hit the buildings but he slept in and missed the flight because he stayed up too late the night before watching Monday Night Football. There's an interview where he's talking about it and I can't remember whether it was the first plane or the second one that he was supposed to be on. He said he still has the plane ticket.

Can you imagine knowing that if you hadn't slept in you would've died in the biggest tragedy our country has ever seen? That's a pretty wild story, not to mention it happened to a person of some fame.

Sounds a bit too coincidental and glamorous to be true. Taken with a large grain of salt.

I doubt it changes much. Osama knew what he was getting into, he probably knew he'd eat a bullet one of these days. No bullet will bring back those family members. To me, his death doesn't change anything in regards to 9/11.

Feel bad for the people who died. Angry for the BS continually pushed out every year on 9/11.
