A, questionthought

first, lack of title, sorry.
Second, now that it is my birthday, It is time to post something myself.
This question has been inside my head, developing since I restarted playing deus exe. Everyoen who played that game as stealthy as possible knows...the bosses svck.
And I'm not saying that I'm even worried that dishonored will amke the same msitake, cause I'm sure it won.t
However, I am wondering how it will be done. In my opinion, you will, 1 way or another, have to face the assassins. they aslo have the outsiders powers. how will you face them. An army? unlikely. Will you get them in a trap, meh. Will you talk to them and at the end they kill the leader (lost his name).
considering there are more ending, i really have been thinking about it.
So, I ask you, what do you think.
Again,a s saight, I'm 10005 sure it will eb great..but how? Gameplay wise, not alot make sense.
So :)

I can't remember which interview.

But harvey made it clear, that there won't be bossfights, "where you aktivate 3 buttons and it's over"

So my guess is, that the challange will lie in the mobility of your oppenent, a higher amount of firepower/powers, and perhabs more HP, but it will still be within the "general gameplay rules" if that makes any sense.

And my guess is that the last target, will be more or less like any other target, just a hell of a lot harder to get too.

Leave traditional boss fights to the old Japanese video games. It's a contrived mechanic that I'm glad won't be tainting this masterpiece called Dishonored.

Deus Ex* and the game you're talking about is Human Revolution which fixed that in the DLC The Missing Link which offered a great encounter at the end in the sense of the original Deus Ex that did "boss fights" right and not in the method of a guy who has three times more health than a sentry bot.

Dishonored won't have boss fights, you will have targets.

Spoiler
Yes, there are other people with powers. One of these people is an assassin called Daud who killed the empress by the use of his powers which were also given to him by the Outsider. You do get to encounter him in the game and even choose if he lives or dies which you will get a certain achievement for depending on your choice. I don't know how they will make those encounters, might be a duel, might be a chase but we don't know and I doubt they will reveal that.

To further the discussion, I love how L4D introduced mini-bosses that are integrated seamlessly into the existing gameplay instead of going into a room and having the doors shut behind you and then the music changes while you face off against some unrealisticly huge solitary character.

Yes, quite a great design decision right there. That's why I like Dishonored's level design, when you find your target you are not greeted with trumpets, there is no transition. You just go in there and get the job done. That's more fast paced and straight to the point than most other games.

The Overseers are special enemies (not really mini-bosses) because they disable your magic capabilities, which is brilliant because it forces you to change your strategy in the mists of battle.

Also the gasmask guys are extremely fast. They dodge even more than the elite guards and are fast enough to move around and attack you from the sides.

I hate boss fights and wouldn't miss them a bit if there weren't any in Dishonored.

We don't know and those encounters won't get revealed until the game is out. It will be a confrontation I am sure of that. Might be one of the scripted events.

A boss fight (As ZP once said) should not just be another enemy with three times as much health. They need to be a final test for all we've learnt up till then.

So true, unfortunately not a lot of games do those well. I am more than happy with Deus Ex and Dishonored's approach to bosses, that being none at all just interesting situations that put your skills to the test.
