Does anyone else miss casting with a weapon?

One of the major flaws of Skyrim, in my opinion of course, is that combat is essentially the same animation, same dance, and same menu scrolling over and over again. It's like Skyrim beats you over the head with clunky and repetative combat mechanics but you don't care becuase the world is so beautiful and expansive. And for some people they're okay with it, but I've put soo many hours into the game I can't muster up anymore enthusiasm to put the disk in my xbox.

In Oblivion you were able to assign a spell AND a wepaon at the same time, so when situations were right you could cast a spell and immediatley go back to swinging that sword are mace or battleaxe. I loved this. By just adding the ability to cast a spell, be able to block, and then melee added a depth to combat that Skyrim is so clearly lacking. I know you can equip a 1H weapon and a spell, but then you sacrafice the ability to block, which is asanine because you have a perfectly good sword hand to parry with.

I know if this was implented I woulld have no trouble getting back into Skyrim again, just add a 25% increase to casting cost or something. This would make hybrid classes feel more like hybrids rather than a paladins or shamans who melee for five seconds, menu scroll, a conjurer for 7 seconds, menu scroll, and then a marksman for 8 seconds.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks for reading!

kinda I mean not for my pure mage it was akward for pure mages but for my spell sword honestly I would't mind if they put a stronger flames spell that would help spell swords alot

I have exactly the opposite opinion. Having to choose what goes in each hand is one of the best mechanics in the game. Tactical choices required. Depth added, not taken away. Pure mages get casting advantages over spellswords, two spells or dual casting, which imo is the way it should be.

Casting with a weapon compared to dual casting the same or two different spells?

I'd go with door #2.

I will also note that, I would have preferred two sets of favorites. One you can store weapons and items in and other you can store spells.

Spells are so vast in this game and it gets confusing having all of them mixed in with your other stuff.

All they would have to do is make it left-right on the d-pad and a button next to favorites for PC users.

The only real issue i've had has been that you can't unequip a spell without having to go through a menu, rather than being able to unequip a spell with a quick key.

This. Having played both Oblivion adn Skyrim lately, I prefer the Skyrim model of having to equip something to each hand. However, they should make the spells equip and unequip with a hotkey like a weapon. Also, if they had more hotkeys, that would help too.

Actually they should implement a hot key weapon set swap system.

The favorites system has this to a degree. It remembers your old weapon set (The specifics I can't really recall).
Being able to switch between different sets at one hot key press would be useful. And both controllers(Which I prefer), and keyboard/mouse users would find it immensely useful

Categorized favorites I liked but also WEAPON SET favorites that remember which set you used.

Noone has come up with this yet.
