Commercials

Post » Sat Sep 15, 2012 3:53 pm

I haven't actively (lol) watched TV in a few years now. I think television commercials should be illegal/not allowed unless they are put on a channel that is solely commercials. When people are subjected to commercials, I think it can have a negative effect on the brain, or be extremely manipulative. If commercials are continued to be allowed, they should be strictly regulated to be very uniform in their designs.
I also think that pricing psychology (only 99.95) should be illegal/not allowed. Products and services should have to cost even dollar amounts. To go beyond this, it would be nice if the psychology of product names weren't allowed either.

Do you have an opinion on this?

Channel providers would go out of business, and then there would be no T.V.

Your idea is bad in my opinion. And if you really can't stand commercials get DVR and just record shows.

Well, I can't stand TV shows at all anymore, which is the reason I don't watch TV. I just don't like the idea of commercials assaulting people all the time.

I honestly don't even know what I do during commercials. I think for a few of them they actually catch my interest, but when those aren't on I think I just talk to someone in the room.

The only time I really hate commercials is during movies on TV when they throw as many as they can in during the last hour.

I agree that commercials are totally a bad influence on the human brain. However it's the individuals choice whether or not they allow themselves to be submitted to today's commercials. I personally watch next to no TV...my life has improved a lot since I stopped ;)

I've always (since about 13) made it a point if I'm about to buy something at the store to remember back to if I saw it in a commercial. If so, I don't buy it. That being said, 'ignoring' a commercial on the TV or not, they still invade the subconscious and it can't be good.

what? you realize you can flip the channel right? besides thats how tv channels get the funding they need to waste my time in the afternoon. If they weren't there you'd have to pay out the nose (well you already do that i suppose) like you do for hbo and other movie channels.

While were at it internet ads should be illegal, and radio ads, or how about ads in print like magizines and newspapers

Man i thought this was going to be about the funny Cheetos commercials or something

Have you seen the film Max Headroom? They put 'blipverts' on the telly, ads crammed into a second or so, but they make sofa-bound tv addicts spontaneously explode.

Give it a few years, and when they figure it out they'll find a way to transmit commercials into our dreams just like Futurama.

Seriously though when i put on a tv show that im gonna watch (like breaking bad) ill pause it when it starts for like 10 to 15 minutes, and ill go do something else like clean up some dishes or something, then ill play the show and fast forward through every one of the commercial breaks.

I really don't watch TV anymore. In fact if it weren't built into my apartment contract I wouldn't even be a subscriber. There is really nothing on TV worth watching that is not online.

Just make more commercials like the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWD0wUmO8jk ones.

I don't mind commercials. I just flip to something else real quick or Internet.

I have a couple of commercals that I hate with a passion:

1: Is the Edmond Hyundai commercial---I loathe these commercials so much :swear:.

2: Is a cable commercal where a family has DSL cable and father is borderline creepy/sick pervert.
