Being a New PC Gamer, I'm having Issues With Mods. Any Help?

Post » Sat Sep 15, 2012 11:58 am

I just got my gaming laptop yesterday and I've installed Skyrim. I want to download mods before I start playing for the first time though. I have found a selection of mods I'd like to download off the Skyrim Nexus and I also installed the NMM, but It won't run properly. After a check off the path for Skyrim and select the filepaths, it gives me an error saying it can't get write permissions to the install info folder and it won't run because of it. Also, I am aware that I need the SKSE for mods such as SkyUI, but I'm unaware of how to go about setting it up. Any help with either of these issues?

Thanks.

Reinstall elsweyr or disable the abomination that is UAC. Program Files/Program Files (x86) is protected, by default.

Disabling UAC is not recommended. The preferred route is to move Steam outside of Program Files on the system's root drive: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129

I figured out the NNM problem. What about setting up the SKSE?

Read the readme/manual. It tells you what you need to know.

I figured out the NNM problem. What about setting up the SKSE?
All the SKSE stuff should be placed in the skyrim directory, in the same folder as the Skyrim executable file. You will then have the option of launching from SKSE inside the NMM program.

I'm now having trouble downloading SkyUI. It won't download straight to the manager and when I try and place it in NMM manually, it says the file can't be added. Any help?
