is 'frenzy' as cool as it sounds?

[Long-time TES player (since daggerfall)]
[soon to embark upon Skyrim for the first time]

Are illusion spells cool? Or are they svck?

I have images of my [sadistic necromage] character crouched on a roof-top at night,
casting frenzy on unsuspecting townsfolk, until the whole town is engulfed in murderous mayhem.

Is this realistic?

Also: will I need to cast 'calm humanoid' like 1000 times before I can even cast 'Invisibility'?? (like in Oblivion)

I have used the weak frenzy spell and it wasn't what I was expecting. It seems like I could hit an enemy standing in the middle of a group and I would still be the first person they attack.

frenzy page, too -- http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Frenzy_(Skyrim)

So the thing is, if the spell works, the target can still go after you, particularly if the player is the closest guy in range. I gotta say though, Frenzy saved me at an early level when bounty hunters popped out of nowhere. didn't know how to play, didn't know what was happening, and they kept on wailing on me.

And then I stepped away some distance, and the bountyhunters went at each other. 1 enemy is a lot easier than 2!

Illusion is a very neat adaption to any sort of build, assuming you have the leftover perk points. Nothing like seeing your enemies go berserk on each other. Some other perks and spells, like Quiet Casting and Invisibility are very nifty as well, especially for stealthier roles.
