Dragon Age: Origins?

Post » Sun Sep 16, 2012 8:27 am

I've been looking into the game and I was wondering how it was. I've played the Mass Effect series by Bioware and simply love the trilogy so I was wondering if I would like DAO. I've heard the second game isn't as good but the first one is simply fantastic, is it true?

It's nothing like ME. It is a great game. Most will tell you the sequel was godawful, all Ill say about it is I liked the art style. Also, most everyone will tell you it's a must play

It was dire to be honest. Most of the elements I liked from the orignal have been stripped out and simplified and the story takes place in one area around a city so the map is pretty much the same for the entire game. The threat in the story is pretty plain and I never felt attached to the characters. After I completed it I was like 'is that it?' I really was expecting something more.

Felt like filler trying to set up a next game. I won't be getting the next one. Edit: Oh, I was talking about 2 here my eyes misread your question!

Yeah Origins is great you should get it!

Origins is a I guess CRPG hybird. It's definitely a must play game as it has a great story, 3 different races you can choose from at the beginning with 6 different origins for some of those races. I would definitely reccomend the Ultimate Edition although you'll need the patch for the final DLC otherwise it's still bugged.

DA2 is ok but it's not as good as Origins.

Its as similar to ME as any Bioware game made recently. You have a party of characters, you go on a journey and make choices that affect the world around you. DA Origins is a great game and while the sequel was a drop-off it is still a rather good game.

DAO is the only game in the series. Ignore everything else unless you want disappointment. It's definitely a AAA rpg with a lot to offer. Not the most amazing ever, but hey it was great. 9/10 from me.

Does you character talk like in ME or is it like Skyrim where your character doesn't talk?

DA:O is phenomenal. It brought back a lot of the same wonderful goodness/nostalgia that I associate with the Baldur's Gate Series. There is one portion of the game that involved helping out some mages in a tower . . . slow and annoying as hell, but the rest of the game is good enough for me to overlook that.

The sequel isn't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. I had fun playing it.

No, your character does not have a voice but you still have a similar style of conversation.

Ah okay, I was hoping for a character with a voice but that won't affect me buying the game

The combat is pretty much the same as KotoR, and for me it got monotonous quick. The environments for levels drag on for a bit long as welll becoming monotonous, especially the Circle of Magi level, the Brecilian forest and orzammar. It is a great game though/

It's a good game, and a true PC game. My only real complaint was the mundane level design and almost zero exploration.

I think one of the valid complaints is that the levels/environments are very repetitive. It seems like there is only one mansion/house, cave, cellar, etc, in the game (with slight variations and sections sealed off).

You are also limited to playing a human.

I played it on console, and until I found the option to auto-attack after clicking an enemy, it was a bit of a button masher. But the option to toggle that made it better.

It was still a fun game though. I don't regret buying either game in the series.

Wow really? So its pretty much a linear game with no exploring?

Oh okay, I'll probably buy it still if I buy the first game.

I think it is comparable to Baldur's Gate games and Mass Effect.

Comparable to ME2 I'd say. I never thought there was much creativity in the way they laid out areas, felt more like playing on a set at times rather than being in a living world. But Bioware has never had much of a flair for level design imo. Still a good games though and certain areas had great atmosphere.

DAO is a great game. Don't bother getting DA2.

Awakening was ok.

DA:O is great. Issue is, it's a bit on the longish side, and it's less of a sandbox and more of Mass Effect style environments (basically you can choose where to go next, but they're like a handful of self-contained cells with a few interiors, unlike gamesas Games, where you have a Huge gameword where you can explore.)

Never played DA2, but it sounds like BioWare fell flat on it's face after they published Mass Effect and DA:O in gaming; ME2 was less well-received, and ME3 and DA2 seem to be franchise killers (or at least so negatively viewed that they can be easily mistaken as such) to most of the fandom.
