My PC is decent, but why does Skyrim suffer?

Post » Mon Sep 17, 2012 7:01 pm

Hey guys, I'm hoping that some of you are computer wizards because I have a problem that I don't very much like:
I'm not sure why, but when I move around everything seems to move in a blocky sense, I's as if I have some problem with my frame rate, but I'm not sure. I'm fairly sure that my PC can run Skyrim because when I change the graphics it auto-detects them to high, but if it does, why would it be so annoying? Well, I'm not an idiot so I changed my setting on all the levels, from Low to High and back again, FXXA and Anti-Aliasing both on and off and yet it still doesn't work smoothly.

As many people will want to know here are my specs: Intel Core i5-2320 3.0Ghz CPU (Quad core), 8GB RAM, 2TB hard drive and a AMD HD6670 2GB GDDR3.
I have looked on websites that tell you whether you can run a game or not and they all say that I can run it, so that's that and I am very grateful of any and all help.

The game engine that Skyrim was built upon simply is not optimized enough to fully utilize modern hardware.

(That's why you get other better-looking games that run so much better and smooth on modern hardware)

Many people run it on modern hardware fine with no problems including myself.

My resolution is 1600 x 900 and even when I put it on Low settings it doesn't smoothen out.

You mean your frame rate is low or you move slow?

Everyone has this. It's a result of it being a blatant console port. It's particularly noticeable at spots with heavy lighting (lots of random candles in a room), no? At any rate, it's not a problem with your computer. Sure, a better PC might not have this problem, but if you were worried that it's a sign of something with your PC being off, nah, that's not the case.

It you -just- started playing for the first time, it could also be general mouse sensitivity you're feeling. Again, console port: moving the mouse literally feels like moving a joystick at first. Just turn your mouse sensitivity waaaaaaay up and it should do it.
Finally, the X-axis and the Y-axis don't move at the same speed, which again, feels awkward coming from any other game as few games do this.

If it's not one of these, you might wanna clarify what you mean by "it moves blocky."

Have you tried lowering your res aswell? is your graphic driver up to date?

try updating if not http://www.amd.com/uk/products/desktop/graphics/amd-radeon-hd-6000/hd-6670/pages/amd-radeon-hd-6670-overview.aspx#4

Ok, I'll give the mouse sensitivity a try.

Ok, so the mouse sensitivity helped a bit, but I have realised that when I progress to a place I haven't been to of late/ever, my frame rate suffers, but when I fight something in a place I have been in, my frame rate is fine.
Also, when looking up and down it appears to be choppy yet side to side is fine.
