What is "raw" damage?

The UESP article on leveling says that I gain one XP point in combat skills for every "raw" damage either dealt or received.

But what, exactly, IS "raw" damage?

"raw" refers to the unaltered state of something. In this case, raw damage is the total damage calculated BEFORE things like armor reduction and resistances are subtracted.

IE, a 10 damage sword plus a 5 damage enchantment would net you a 15 "raw" damage output.

Note: Pulling numbers out of my... head, for sake of the example.

Oh, so... enchantments and poisons increase my skill progression?

So... could I use the fortify restoration-alchemy glitch in order to get a super-powered fortify smithing enchantment, subsequently temper a couple of weapons (one for each skill), and instantly max out my combat skills with one blow?

Then give them to a follow, frenzy them, give myself a super-powered "fortify health" enchantment, and frenzy them into attacking me, so that my armor skill gets maxed out with one blow?

Then sell the weapons to instantly max out my speech skill?

And so on and so forth?
